The President and UNWLA archivist, Olya Drozdo - wycz, participated in the meeting. Oksana Dats, former President of Branch 131, was elected Pre s- ident of the Regional Council. UNWLA Honorary Member, Olya Trytyak, was presented a certificate of appreciation for her many years of dedication in the preservation of UNWLA archive s. (See pi c- ture) Outgoing President, Olya Lukiw, received a certificate for her tire less work as Chairperson of the UNWLA XXIX Co n- vention and thanked for her years of very succes s- ful leadership as Pres i- dent of the Regional Council. We congratulate all thr ee ladies! President presenting certificate of ap preciation to UNWLA Honorary Member, Olya Trytyak. June 16th Executive Committee meeting at UNWLA headquarters June 21st Teleconference call with R e- gional Council Presidents. The purpose of the call was to share the ongoing projects of the Executive Committee and National Board as well as to a d- dress any concerns or questions the Presidents may have. This form of communication will occur quarterly. June 23rd The UNWLA and SFUZHO a r- ranged a gathering with Olena Suslova, candidate from Ukraine to the UN CEDAW governing body, Gathering with Olena Suslowa, CEDAW governing body candidate. at the UNWLA headquarters in NYC. The Regio n- al Council of NY graciously hosted the event. (See picture) Ms Suslova, a dedicated women’s rights advocate, shared information on her candidacy as well as her views on the current status of women in Ukraine. We wished Ms. Suslova much success on the upcoming election. June 24th At the annual meeting of The Ukrainian Museum the UNWLA welcomed two new members to the Museum’s Board of Trustees – Chryzanta Hentisz and Maryann Marsch - Hoy - dysh. We welcome them and trust that they will reap much personal satisfaction from their volu n- teer work at this worthy institution. June 25th The P resident participated in a teleconference call of the Board of Directors of the Ukrainian World Congress. June 28th Teleconference call with UNWLA Standing Committee Chairs. As stated above, the purpose was to share information from both sides – that is, the Executive Committee and the Chairpe r- sons. These calls will also be scheduled quarterly . ANNOUNCEMENT The annual meeting of the UNWLA National Board will take place on November 2 nd – 4 th , 2012 at UNWLA headquarters @ 203 Second Avenue, New York, New York. Further information will be mailed to the members of the Board. O UR C OVER – Christina (Holowchak) Debarry is a well - known artist both among Ukrainians and within the wider community, including Europe. She is accomplished in various styles of art, especially in woodcuts and in pastels. Christina has been awarded many prizes and is a member of many prestigious organizations. She has been listed in Who’s Who in American Art . She served as President of the Pastel Society of America and is an Elected Full Signature Member. Additionally, she is an Elected Full Member (vice - president) of the Allied Artists of America, Elected Full Member of The Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, Elected Full Member of American Artist Professional League NY, and Elected Full Member of Audubon Artist. She is also the recipient of Honoree 2006 Art du Pastel en France (Giverney, France), the Gold Medal of the Art Spirit Foundation, the Pastel Award of Allied Artists of America, and the Pa stel Award of Audubon Artists. Ms. Debarry gave many pastel painting workshops in the USA as well as Canada, Bermuda, France, and Me x ico. Christina Debarry's art has been published in many art books and magazines.
