“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ВЕРЕСЕНЬ 2011 15 Наша обкладинка Христина Лушпинська - Соболь володіє виїмковим даром малювання і рисування. Про це чула від своїх вчителів і знайомих ще малою дитиною. Як підросла, любов до мистецтва попро - вадила Христину до Ню Йорку, де закінчила мистецькі студії в Pratt Institute, School of Art and Design . Там вона розвинула свій талант у зображенні людської форми і малюванні порт - ретів. Продовжувала свої студії в Chicago Art Institute. Ранні праці мисткин і віддзеркалювали зацікавлення старими майстрами ; користувалась насиченими, темними фарбами. З часом її кар - тини ставали щораз яснішими і “ легшими ”. Приблизно 15 років тому Христина почала малювати ангелів та ікони значно відмінним стилем від наших традиці йних ікон. Кольори в цих нових зображеннях є легкі, ясні, майже пастельні. Настрій цих праць також змінився. В них відчувається ніжність, лагід - ність, спокій душі і більша доступність, ніж в традиційних іконах. Тут є брак суворості. Хоча тепер мисткиня зай мається пере - важно зображенням ангелів та ікон своїм уні - кальним стилем, але також приймає замовлення на портрети. Має велику групу студентів, котрі з захопленням вчаться в неї образотворчої тех - ніки. Our Cover Artist As a young child, Christine Lushpynsky Sobol was told by teachers and friends that she had an extraordinary talent for drawing and painting. This love of expressing her thoughts and ideas on canvas eventually brought her to New York, where she graduated from the Pratt Institute Schoo l of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. As her talent flourished, she continued her education at the Chicago Art Institute. Early in her career as a professional artist, Christine’s portraits, landscapes, and still life paintings were dark and e arthy — the tones in - fluenced by her love of the Old Masters, like Rembrandt. Gradually, as she developed her own unique style, her color palette for commissioned portraits became lighter and brighter. The change was, in part, prompted by commissioned work. Christine was first commissioned to paint angels and icons about 15 years ago; the demand for such works grew exponentially and the work lifted her spirits, thereby lightening her color palette. Such paintings also gave her new - found inspiration, creativit y, and satisfaction. The artist’s icons are distinctive: She creates images, such as the Madonna and Child, that are more loving, gentle, and approachable than tradi - tional icon images. Although she focuses mostly on painting angels and icons, clients oft en commission her to paint one - of - a - kind portraits, and students flock to her studio outside Chicago for art lessons. All submissions should include title of artwork, a brief artist bio , and a telephone number. Once artwork has been selected for publication, please send a high resolution (no less than 300 dpi) version of the selected work to Ms. Zinyc h on disc or as a color print (no larger than 8½ by 11) for scanning. Also submit (in U krainian and English) a brief autobiography, which includes pertinent information about artist’s life, education, style and medium, exhibits, and awards. Include title of artwork selected (in English and Ukrainian). Please provide a telephone number with your submission(s) or queries.
