“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЛИПЕНЬ - СЕРПЕНЬ 2011 21 Resolutions pertaining to Education : • To accommodate the influx of young families to diaspora communities, open more Svitlychky (preschools). • Renew workshops for Svitlycha teachers, to be held at least once or twice a year. • Dissemin ate information about UNWLA Svitlychky within our communities. • Utilize mass media to provide information about UNWLA Svitlychky. Resolutions pertaining to Social Welfare : • Continue to support the programs for grandmothers, orphans, and victims of the Chorno byl nuclear disaster. • Continue to develop and implement the program “Assistance and Caring for the Elderly.” • Provide information related to needs and concerns of aging single members of our organization, by emulating what has already worked in individual b ranch endeavors. • Find sponsors to increase the financial base for the Social Welfare program. • Actively work with the presidents of Regional Councils and b ranches to coordinate the work of the Social Welfare Committee. • Hold an educational Social Welfare wor kshop for UNWLA Regional Councils. • Initiate a new column in Our Life which will focus on activities undertaken by the Social Welfare Committee in the United States and in Ukraine. Resolutions pertaining to Cultural Affairs : • Seek out and learn about new pub lications and cultural events in Ukraine and the d iaspora and pass this information to the membership • Study the feasibility of funding a Lectureship in Women/Gender Studies at the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv. • Publish a page in Our Life with revie ws of recently published books. • Publish a page in Our Life containing information about new and interesting cultural materials. • Continue the activities related to the Petro and Lesia Kovaliv Fund, which supports literary and historical works on Ukrainian t hemes. • Continue to sponsor the Ukrainian National Student Research Competitions related to translations of the works of William Shakespeare into Ukrainian. Resolutions pertaining to Archives : • With the support of the Archives Chairwoman of the National Bo ard , c ontinue t o collect and organize UNWLA materials from b ranches and Regional Councils that are to be sent to the Immigration History Research Center (IHRC) in Minneapolis for safekeeping and as a valuable resource for those engaged in studies related to i mmigrants, immigration, and ethnic communities. Resolutions pertaining to Press : • Continue to strengthen the financial base of Our Life . • Provide an in depth picture of the work accomplished by the UNWLA in the pages of Our Life. • Continue publishing new co lumns in Our Life that clearly demonstrate activities carried out by the UNWLA. • Sign up new subscribers and donors. • Encourage the leadership and members of Regional Councils and b ranches to purchase subscriptions of Our Life for branches of the Ukrainian W omen’s League in Ukraine, for institutions of higher educations, and for friends and acquaintances. Resolutions pertaining to Public Relations : • Regional Councils and b ranches should organize seminars on how to work effectively with non - Ukrainian organizati ons and press and how to strengthen outreach to other women’s organizations. • Continue and expand public relations endeavors that reach out to all Ukrainian organizations and establishments in the United States and inform them about the UNWLA and its work.
