20 “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЛИПЕНЬ - СЕР ПЕНЬ 2011 RESOLUTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS ADOPTED AT THE XXIX UNWLA CONVENTION The leadership and delegates of the XXIX Convention sends greetings: To the Hierarchs of the Ukrainian Churches in Ukraine and the diaspora. To the American people and President Barack H. Obama. To the Ukrainian people. In celebrating the 86th anniversary of the UNWLA and remembering its founders, leaders, and all members, w e urge all our current members to put into action the slogan of the XXIX Convention: “A wreath woven in friendship unites us forever.” We further ask our membership: • To commemorate, with dignity, the 80th anniversary of the Great Famine/Holodomor of 1932 – 1 933; • To continue informing the world about the Great Famine in Ukraine and to urge world governments to recognize this tragic page in Ukraine’s history; • To participate in worldwide commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of poet, patriot, and visionary Taras Shevchenko; • To celebrate the 70th anniversary of Our Life magazine festively and with great pride. • To continue to support and uphold all previous resolutions from past conventions. Recommendations on Organizational Matters : Enforce the r ecommendations/resolutions of previous conventions and specifically, expand on the recommendations from the 27 th UNWLA Convention (2005 – Albany, New York), as follows: • “Branches with members in nursing homes and hospitals” or in assisted living facilities or receiving home - based personal care services, “may apply for exemptions from UNWLA dues for these members.” • Continue the current Membership Recruitment Campaign at the local b ranch and Regional Council levels. • Commence the next phase of the campaign, PR OJECT OUTREACH, a marketing strategy approach that will actively involve all levels of the organization and will help us achieve our membership goals. • Prior to planned dissolution of a branch, its members should be actively encouraged to retain their membe rship in the UNWLA, either by transferring to another branch or by transitioning to Member - at - Large status. These efforts should be coordinated among Branches, Regional Councils, the Liaison for Branches - at - Large , and the Chairwoman for Members - at - Large. • Energize the drive to attract and enlist women who live in areas remote from b ranches and who cannot actively participate in b ranch activities by inviting these women to join the UNWLA as Members - at - Large. Resolutions pertaining to Arts/Museum : • Wor k with presidents of Regional Councils to ensure that they encourage their branches to become members of the Ukrainian Museum in New York City. • Encourage UNWLA members to bequeath their art collections and estate assets to the Ukrainian Museum. • Inform UNW LA members that the Museum Store will graciously accept Ukrainian art work, which may not be of museum quality but may be coveted as attractive gifts or keepsakes. • Encourage UNWLA membership to organize art shows and sponsor fundraisers on behalf of the Uk rainian Museum. • Concentrate on spreading knowledge about Ukrainian artists within Ukrainian and American communities. Resolutions pertaining to the Scholarship Program : • Continue to support the efforts of the UNWLA Scholarship Committee’s work in Ukraine, Europe, and South America. • Expand the program in Ukraine by increasing the number of scholarship recipients and rendering strong support for their academic pursuits during this time of intellectual and academic crisis. • Recruit additional sponsors to suppor t students in Ukraine.
