We also received beautiful greetings from other branches and regional councils. However, what made the luncheon unique was the use of the Trypillian theme which was highlighted throughout, most not a- bly in the designs on the scarves worn by Branch 95 members for the event. The Trypi l- lian theme was the brainchild of branch me m- ber Vera Staruch, who thought that using these elaborate designs would be a nice tribute to our heritage from an ancient culture in which the female influence was very strong. Using Vera’s fox motif, Marianna Crans created a fox meda l- lion for the event, and it was so well received by the members that they decided to adopt it as the Branch logo. Marianna then used design elements from the medallion to create a fox pattern for the scarves, and, with the help of her mother, Halina Szczawinsky, and Cathy Gorham, she reproduced them on luxurious silk scarves. Worn over solid colors by branch members, the scarves made for a stunning co n- trast to the traditional embroidered blouses usually worn for such events. The fox medallion was then used on invitat ions, posters, pr o- grams, and banners also designed by Vera St a- ruch and executed by Maxine Hayden. As lu n- cheon plans developed, other Trypillian elements were incorporated, such as the beaut i- ful Trypillian pysanky created by Nadia Woj o- wycz, the mother of b ranch member Bohdana Puzyk ( Mrs . Wojowycz loaned them for use in the centerpieces during the luncheon ) ; and the Trypillian fox doilies that Branch President Eva Panc hy shyn and the Regional Council President Maria Cade found at the XXIX UNWLA N a- tional Conve ntion held in New Jersey this year. All in all, the luncheon was a happy and su c- cessful celebration! It will be interesting to see what we come up with for the Branch’s SILVER Ann i- versary in five years. Marianna Szczawinsky Crans BRANCH 14 CELEBRATES 35TH ANNIVERSARY On Saturday, September 17, 2011, Branch 14 of Atlanta, Georgia, celebrated its 35th anniversary with a dinner at The Diner at Northpoint (Alpharetta, Georgia). Laryssa Temple and Orysia Fisher made cakes for a raffle. Donia Semchyshyn and Kathy Tice donated items for fund - raising. A special 'thanks' goes to Orysia Fisher for bringing flo w- ers and Ukrainian decorations. Orysia Fisher, our historian, spoke about the branch's 35 years of a ctivities, which i n- cluded photo notebooks, awards, various events, and fundraisers in which members have partic i- pated over the years. She detailed the acco m- plishments of all the past presidents of the branch — Gerri Hajduk, Orysia Fisher, Angela Halifax, Dia na Stawnyczy, and Nadia Mychal c- zuk. Special guest Victor Seredyuk gave the blessing before the meal, and all the members and guests joined in the celebration of Tatiana Semchyshyn's 87th birthday. This special event was attended by spouses and friends of the branch me m- bers. Two past members rejoined the branch that evening for a total of five new members in 2011. I would like to thank Halyna Ser e- dyuk, president of the UCCA for the state of Georgia, for helping us celebrate this special occasion. We are a lso grateful for the support and good wishes we received from the UNWLA Headquarters in New York City.
