“ НAШЕ ЖИТТЯ ”, ГРУДЕНЬ 2011 WWW.UNWLA@UNWLA.ORG 17 We wish all the UNWLA members and all the readers of Our Life a truly Merry Christmas, filled with peace and joyful family celebrations, and an equally happy and healthy New Year! The UNWLA National Board and the Editors of Our Life Ukrainian Holodomor - Genocide Awareness 1932 - 33. Ms. Hennessy was very touched by the recognition received from the UNWLA as I th anked her for “the generous gift of time and talent, for her dramatic and heartfelt voice - ov er in the award winning documentary which me morializes the victims of the Holodomor - Genocide of 1932 - 33 in Ukraine.” The UNWLA also gave the director/producer Yuri j Luhovy a certificate of appreciation for his determination in producing an English version, which has been very successful, as testified by the 14 awards Genocide Revealed has won in the i n- ternational film community. The UNWLA also congratulated Mr. Luho vy on inviting acco m- plished actors to do the voice - overs and to be an integral part of this documentary as surely this will pave the way for this pai n- ful topic's acceptance into the mainstream. Two days la t- er — on Sunday, N o- vember 6th — the Ukrainian Catholi c University’s annual fundraiser in New York City was held at the Ukrainian Natio n- al Home. I was given the opportunity to formally announce the establishment of the UNWLA’s Wo m- en’s/Gender Studies $100,000 Endowment at UCU. After emphasizing that education has always been an integral part of the UNWLA’s mission and that many young women in Ukraine are now taking on leadership roles, I stated that we felt it a natural progression to influence the future teachers of our young girls and boys in the roles that e ach gender should take on in her/his society for a more harm o- nious and fulfilling family life. I also mentioned the YouTube video of the interview with Rector Borys Gudziak and several students of UCU (we invite you to visit http://www. youtube .com/ w atch?v=ePCQOjO1N24 ). In it, Fr. Gudziak emphasizes the impo r- tance of the woman’s role in the raising of Ukraine’s future generations and that Women’s Studies would help these women to better e x- amine and understand the male/female rel a- tionships to achieve success in the future. The students also voiced their support for the initi a- tive and stressed how important it is for a young woman to gain a better and deeper u n- derstanding of herself before she can take on leadership roles. The announcement of the UNWLA/ UCU par t- nership through the Endowment was e n- thusiastically received by the audience. The University continues to expand its scope of studies and Wo m- en's/Gender Studies will be an important addition. This a n- nouncement was r e- peated at the annual Chicago UCU fu n- draiser on November 13th. Circulars with detailed information will be mailed out to our Regional Councils and Branches shortly, but in the meantime, we e n- courage our readers and members to generou s- ly support the Endowment. The UNWLA will be able to make an indelible mark on the lives of many — the students at UCU and future students of UCU graduates. We ask that donations be made out to the UNWLA with a notation of “Women’s/Gender Studies Endowment,” and we thank you in advance for your support!
