“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЧЕРВЕНЬ 2010 11 The Ukrainian Museum Receives $75,000 Grant from Coby Foundation for Wedding Exhibition From Invitation to a Wedding: Ukrainian Wedding Textiles and Trad itions Exhibit The Ukrainian Museum is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the Coby Foundation for the exhibition Invitation to a Wedding: Ukrainian Wedding Textiles and Traditions . The Foundation had previously awarded th e Museum $30,000 (in 2008) to plan this exhibition. Located in New York City, the Coby Foundation funds projects in the textile and needle arts, primarily exhibitions and education programs. The Foundation was established in 1994 by Irene Zambelli Silverma n in honor of her mother, Irene Meladakis Zambelli, whom Mrs. Silverman described as "the finest needlewoman in New York." Invitation to a Wedding , which has also received an $18,000 grant from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), draws from th e Ukrainian Museum's folk arts collec - tion and other sources to present the vast array of textiles traditionally used as part of a Ukrainian wedding: embroidered ritual cloths and shirts, woven sashes, elaborate headdresses, and much more. The exhibition w ill also show how traditional implements and clothing have been adapted for use in the modern Ukrainian wedding, both in Ukraine and in the d iaspora. C urated by Lubow Wolynetz, who oversees the Museum's folk art collec - tion, Invitation to a Wedding will op en on November 20.
