Travel - related websites can help dissipate the planning nightmares and help you keep on top of thi ngs. Websites to check before (and ever after) buying airline tickets and other useful hints presented below are a good place to start. Airline Tickets Sign up for a twitter account and get some exclusive deals. JetBlue notifies of last minute discounts at www.JetBlueCheeps on Tuesday morning, usually for several hours. Farecompare.com offers comparison o f fares by date, airline and time. Consider nearby airports. Even within 50 miles, fares differ considerably. Don’t automatically book round trips. Look for one way fares at various travel sites. You may find that flying to your destination on one airline and returning on another costs less and that you can fly at more convenient times. When traveling with only carry - on luggage try “illegal” connections. These are flights that are less than 45 minutes apart and usually much less expensive. They do not even show up on the computer, so get or have your agent write two separate tickets. If you miss your connection, the airline will normally let you fly on the next available plane. Yapta.com will automatically track the price of your ticket. If the price goes d own, they will notify you, without charge, via an e - mail or Twitter. You can then call the airline and claim your credit. Rental and Hotels Travelocity.com will refund the difference for prepaid hotel reservation if you find the same room for a cheaper pri ce on line before check - in. In Europe, check Rentvillas.com , homeaway.com , Zonder.com , and Rentalo.com . In the Caribbean, check Wimco.com . Safe Foreign Travel Centers for Disease Control www.cdc.gov/travel informs you of specific information and precautions in various countries. World Health Organization www.whoinl/ith advises of potential hazards The U.S. State Department’s Travel Warning & Consular Information travel.state.gov/trav el_warnings.html . CIA World Factbook web page www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/ contains extremely detailed information on foreign countries. Register with the State Department at https://travelregistration.state.gov free. The State Dept will notify you in case of family emergency in U.S. or if there is a crisis where you are traveling. Check https://travelregistration.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_t w/cis/cis_1765.html for local conditions and laws (while in a foreign country, you are subject to its laws).
