Ukrain ian Pysanky Featured at International Egg Art Exhibit in Dubai In August, artists from around the world participated in the Middle East’s first Egg Art Exhibit organized by Dubai Summer Surprises 2009. Among the 10 international artists who showcased alm ost 300 eggs at the exhibition was Cristina Serediak, a practicing pediatrician from Argentina. Ms. Serediak noted that her Ukrainian heritage and a visit to Ukraine 15 years ago inspired her to begin working with this ancient art form. Cristina designs py sanky that reflect traditional ancient symbols and has written a book in which she explains the meanings of the lines, shapes, colors, and other elements in her art. The book explains, for example, that horses give men strength, hens protect children, and big hens ensure fertility. Dubai’s Egg Art Exhibition was Cristina’s first foray into international shows. Among the other artists participating at the exhibit were Kim Kyung - Ah (President of the Korean Art Guild); Hungarian egg artist from Canada, Eva Cek e; and folk handicraft artist Kati Zsigóné, from Kalocsa, Hungary. — Contributed by Dora Horbachevsky
