On Sunday, September 20, 2009, the Detroit Regional Council celebrated the induction of a new branch. Hosted at the Regional Council’s UNWLA Domivka in Warren, Michigan, the event was spo n so red by Branch 96, whose members include the mothers, mothers - in - law, and other relatives of the 15 new branch members. In accordance with UNWLA Bylaws, the group held its Founders’ Meeting (Osnovuyuchi zbory) on May 28, 2009. Hosted at a local resta u rant, the meeting was attended by Anna (Nusha) Macielinski, UNWLA 2 nd Vice President for Me m bership, Vice President of the Detroit Regional Council, and the Membership Chair for Branch 96, who answered questions and provided guidance on branch formation and stru cture. A branch board and chairs of standing committees were elected. A date was also set for the subsequent induction ceremony, traditionally referred to as the “Christening” (Khreshchennia) of a new branch. As required by the bylaws, the UNWLA Executive Committee, at their meeting held in New York City on June 28, 2009, voted to grant the group admission and assigned the sequential nu m ber of Branch 132. Branch 96 sponsors sent out invitations, and prepared a short and meaningful program. Vera A n drushkiw , Vice President of the U.S. - Ukraine Fou n dation and member of Branch 96, served as Mistress of Ceremonies. Following her opening remarks, guests were invited to participate in reciting the UNWLA prayer (English - language version) and singing the UNWLA hymn. It should be noted, that the entire program was conducted bilingually to i n sure that all those present could understand the pr o ceedings. Mrs. Andrushkiw presented an overview of the UNWLA, focusing on the purpose and impo r tant milestones of the organizati on. She also co m mented on the selection of Heidemarie M. Stefan y shyn - Piper as the patroness of Branch 132.
