36 “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЛИПЕНЬ - СЕРПЕНЬ 2009 Letters I have recently become a subscriber to Our Life and have been enjoying each issue as well as the artwork on the covers. I especially liked the artistic rendering of the pysanka on the cover of the April issue. The responses to “What I le arned from my mother” were a delight. The question causes one to reflect, and the stories made me think about what I have learned from my own mother. Thank you for including them in the May issue, a great way to celebrate mothers and commemorate Mother's D ay . T ania Blanco , Naperville, I llinois _________________________ I wish to congratulate you and the new editorial board for a job well done. The journal touches upon all aspects of our organization’s life and has a wide range of topics of interest to wo men in general. Many thanks for the : “ Book Corner” — it is a long overdue addition. “Kozaks in Alaska” (June issue) made for an inter esting and enjoyable read as did the rest of the issue and previous issues overall. We live in a society where change is com ing with overwhelming speed. Perhaps a “New Ideas Corner” might arouse the interest of our younger members and thus stimulate participation and discussion. Your emphasis on showcasing our domestic talent and achievements is particularly welcome . Vera Lev ytsky Klish, Branch 90, Philadelphia What’s Bugging You? Su mmer is a wonderful season . . . except for the bugs. To bug - proof your lazy hazy days of summer fun, try the following: Mosquitoes : Putting a dryer sheet in your pocket will keep the m osquitoes away. Fruit Flies : To get rid of pesky fruit flies, put ½ an inch of apple cider vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid into a glass and mix well. Fruit flies are drawn to this mixture (actually most will end up in the mixture) and everythin g else in your kitchen will be fruit - fly free. Ants: Put small piles of cornmeal wherever you see ants. They eat it but they can’t digest it, and eventually it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works. It is also a much better solution than exposing pets or children to harmful pesticides. – Contributed by Dora Horbachevsky Authors: Please note that the deadline for submitting articles is the 15th of the month before the issue in which you would like articles to be pu blished.
