“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЛЮТИЙ 2009 24 On the Sunday following the symposium, Drs. von Hagen, Serbyn and Marples participated in hromada meeting at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Transfiguration. The discussion was held after the liturgy and panakhyda in memory of the victims of Holodomor. The church hall was filled to capacity for the discussion and a light meal. Taras Bugir, head of the church council, moderated the lively discussion. In all, about 200 people attended the three- day commemoration. Ania Savage, professor of journalism at the University of Denver and chair of the UNWLA’s Holodomor Committee, served as moderator of the symposium, which was co- sponsored by the University of Denver’s Center for Teaching International Relations. The Humanitarian Program at the Josef Korbel Graduate School of International Studies donated $500 to defray the expenses of the event. Travel and accommodations for the invited guests were underwritten by the profits from the bake sales at the Ukrainian Church of Transfigura- tion. Marta Arnold, former branch president; branch treasurer Olga Bugir; and members Dr. Ruda, Catherine Shaw, Maria Figlus, and Theodosia Fedak were the main- stays who baked and sold the cakes and pliatzky following Sunday mass. A buffet of Ukrainian food prepared for the Friday evening film screen- ing was prepared by Tatiana Gajecky-Wynar. A brown-bag lunch was prepared for symposium partici- pants by a committee chaired by Dr. Oksana Ruda. During November, UNWLA Branch 38 con- tinued its Holodomor Commemoration with a Holo- domor exhibit at the Koelbel Library, the main library of the Arapahoe Library District in metro- politan Denver. The exhibit (on display through December 1) was featured in the suburban editions of both the Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News.
