“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ВЕРЕСЕНЬ 200 8 7 OUR LI FE Monthly, published by Ukrainian Na tional Women’s League of America Vol. LXV SEPTEMBER 2008 Editor: TAMARA STADNYCHENKO SHARING THOUGHTS, VIEWS, & NEWS Honorary President Iryna Kurowyckyj, Cardinal Lubomyr Husar, UNWLA President Marianna Zajac This is the first column that I am writing for Our Life as UNWLA president, one of many to come. And while there is much to say, one of the most difficult aspects of this process was deciding how to make this column an extension of myself and my presidency and how to present my thoughts, views, and news to UNWLA members and other readers. It was while thinking about the “how” of this process, that I came up with the column title. And it was while thinking about the UNWLA Convention during which I was elected president that I found the theme for this initial column. Allow me to thank the Detroit Regional Council and its Convention Committee for the detailed planning and careful execution of this important event. Bravo! I thank you on behalf of all who attended this extraordinary event. I would also like to thank each and every delegate for bestowing on me the honor and privilege of serving as president of the UNWLA. I enjoyed meeting you personally, enjoyed hearing about the extensive community and charitable work you are performing in your own environments and communities, and enjoyed learning about your plans and challenges. All of these experiences made up the many convention “WOW” moments for me! In her closing commentary, delivered on May 26, Lida Bilous, the moderator of the XXVIII UNWLA Convention, stated that “ the greatest privilege that can come to any Ukrainian American woman is to give herself to an organization with the highest of principles, with the most noble of purposes, and that is the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America .” After emotionally thanking her late mother for instilling in her a deep appreciation for her Ukrainian heritage and a passion for the work of the UNWLA, she emphatically added, “M ay our united and dedicated work for the goals of our organization serve as the rich embroidery that we pass on to future generations!”
