Pittsburgh (Branch 27), during 2006/2007, broadcast Christmas, Easter, and Mother’s Day greetings on the local Ukrainian radio program. The University of Pittsburgh has a building with “Nationality Rooms,” and Branch 27 has a designated room, which members decorate annually in the 18th century style, depicting the celebration of Christmas in Ukraine. They also participated in a bake sale with other nationalities. Denver (Branch 38) has a member who plays the bandura, and she participated in a Renaissance festival during the summer months. This lady now attends the branch’s social events and may join the branch in the coming year. North Port (Branch 56) held a fashion show of Ukrainian embroidery applied to modem attire. The fashions were a creation of branch member I. Martynec, who narrated during the show. The branch also held a Christmas social for family members and went caroling house-to-house. Members celebrated the 80th anniversary of UNWLA (and 15th for the branch) with a festive banquet/”Vyshyvani Vechemytsi.” In attendance was our president, Iryna Kurowyckyj, and on the following day, the branch held a “meet the UNWLA President” meeting. Lechman participated in an international meeting of UNIFEM (United Nations Development Fund for Women), which was held in Sarasota. In April, the branch sponsored a Women’s Art Exhibit at the Field School in Washington, DC. San Jose (Branch 107) hosted a very successful Christmas dinner serving traditional food with over 120 attendees. Children recited poems, and UNLWA members sang carols. Los Angeles (Branch 111) donated books to the Los Angeles Central Library in order to start a Ukrainian Section.
