OUR LIFE Monthly, published by Ukrainian National Women’s League o f America Vol. LXIV MAY 2007 Editor: TAMARA STADNYCHENKO From the Desk of the President Once a year, we celebrate a special holiday honoring mothers. Those who have lost their mothers do so by taking flowers to cemeteries, or praying quietly at home, or reminiscing with siblings, friends, children, or grandchildren about someone whose vitality and spirit are well remembered and sorely missed. I wish you peaceful thoughts and happy memories. Those whose mothers are aged and in frail health, may spend this day as caregivers or companions, giving back what was given many, many times over the course of many years and decades. I wish you the strength, perseverance, and courage to make your mothers ’ special day easier, brighter, and happier. For those whose mothers are in good health and in good spirits, I wish a joyful celebration and the hope that you will find many opportunities to make this day truly memorable for your mothers as well as for yourselves by showing appreciation for all that they have done for you. I wish for you the love and grace to find words and the deeds that express sincere gratitude for the woman who gave you unconditional love and support, showed you how to be a good citizen and a good friend, created a home in which you could feel safe and secure, and taught you to know and to love the country that was home to your near and distant ancestors. Above all, I wish all of the mothers in our organization and among our readers a Happy Mother’s Day. Mnohaya Lita! On behalf of the UNWLA, I would like to welcome to our organization the newly formed Branch 130 of the Ohio Regional Council. We look forward to working with you and hope that you will enjoy sharing our work, our aspirations, and our successes. We congratulate you on the work you have already begun by organizing and running a Svitlychka for young children. Your endeavors are a gift to your community and to our diaspora! The UNWLA Executive Committee and UNWLA members nationwide congratulate newly elected New Jersey Regional Council President Olha M. Lukiw. May your tenure as president be productive and happy. On behalf of UNWLA, I would also like to welcome four new members who have recently joined Branch 118 in Houston, Texas: Natalia Bardin, Ulyana Horodyskyj, Natalia Hrynyshyn, and Elena Kryzhanovskaya, and three new members who have recently joined Branch 96 in Warren Michigan, Detroit Regional Council: Linda Hryhorchuk, Tamara Kuropas, and Victoria Moll. In accordance with our bylaws, UNWLA Conventions must be announced one year in advance. In keeping with this requirement, we are formally announcing that the XXVIII UNWLA Convention will be held over the Memorial Day weekend, Friday May 23 through Monday May 26, 2008, at the Troy Marriott Hotel, 200 West Big Beaver Rd., Troy, Michigan. Ms. Anna Macielinski has been chosen as the XXVIII UNWLA Convention Chair by the Detroit Regional Council, and the Convention Committee is already engaged in planning and preparing for this momentous event. We hope that all of our members will attend this convention; the deliberations and decisions and resolutions made at these events are the highest legislative power within our organization. Your presence and your votes validate our organization and give you the opportunity to be a part of the decisions made about its future direction!
