that created this magazine and ensured that it survived to this day. Today we ask that all of you emulate this conviction, persistence, and courage and support the tradition that these strong women passed on to us. Please be generous and help our organization keep Our Life alive. In June, we celebrate Zeleni Sviata (Green Festival). During this holiday we visit the graves of the deceased, and pay homage to the heroes who gave their lives fighting for freedom for Ukraine. Please take a moment to honor their memory. In the remaining section of my monthly message, I would like to share information about recent im portant events of interest to our organization and our community. To begin with, there is glorious news from Kyiv about the Church of St. Cyril. As a result of the letter writing campaign cosponsored by the UNWLA, the Preservation Ministry of International Affairs and the local UNESCO Commission, proposed to nominate the Church of St. Cyril for inclusion in UNESCO’s World Monuments Fund list. We hope that the Church of St. Cyril will be placed on this list and designated by UNESCO as a historic site that must be preserved. On April 17, 2007, I had the honor and pleasure to be invited by New York University students to speak at the educational symposium of Global Health Alliance on the topic of “Chomobyl Yesterday and Today” to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the nuclear disaster. Below I share the text of the letter I received after this event: Dear Mrs. Iryna Kurowyckyj, The Global Health Alliance at New York University wanted to thank you for participating in our Chomobyl event this past Tuesday. Your time was very much appreciated by all members in attendance and your stories offered us all a very important insight into the disaster. It was wonderful to hear about how the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America has helped that region and it is incredible that your organization is taking such an active humanitarian role. With that in mind, I wanted to reassure you that I, Dmitry Beyder, would happily participate in any activities of the UNWLA, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any assistance whatsoever. Again, thank you very much for joining us and best of luck in the future. Sincerely, Dmitry Beyder, Global Health Alliance of NYU Finally, I would like to inform our readers that members of the UNWLA Executive Committee were recently invited by the Ukrainian Mission to the UN and World Information Transfer president Dr. Christina Durbak to attend the Fifth International Conference on Health and Environment and a luncheon commemo rating the Chomobyl disaster.
