The UNWLA Executive Committee, National Board, and membership congratulated Christine Chomyn-Izak on her reelection as President of Regional Council of Philadelphia. On May 27, 2006, UNWLA President I. Kurowyckyj and Marianna Zajac, VP in charge of Public Relations, attended the 36th Convention of the Ukrainian National Association (UNA). As we are in the middle of the summer, I hope you are resting well and getting strength for all the work that awaits you in the coming year. The First Lady, who was raised in the United States and earned an MBA from the University of Chicago, eloquently presented her case for a collaborative venture between Ukraine and U.S. institutions and organizations to achieve her goals, which include a research center for neonatal and genetic testing to be based in Kyiv. Attending the meeting were many health care professionals, leaders in their respective fields; the ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, the honorable Dr. Ihor Shamshur; and members of the Ukrainian delegation. The historic event at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia was organized by the Ukrainian Federation of America and was attended by Dr. Zenia Chemyk, who chairs the organization’s Healthcare Commission and Mrs. Vera Andrei- czyk, the organization’s president.
