OUR LIFE Monthly, published by Ukrainian National Women’s League o f America Vol. LXIII JANUARY 2006 Editor: TAMARA STADNYCHENKO The UNWLA Executive Committee , National Board , and membership welcome and congratulate Luba Kushnir Dryansky, who was recently elected Regional Council President of Central New York. Luba is the youngest Regional Council President in our midst, and we wish her well in her new posi tion. She is carrying on a family tradition of service in the UNWLA. Her mother, Teodozia Kushnir is an Honorary Member of the UNWLA who served for many years as President of the Central New York Regional Council, the post now held by her daughter Luba. Her other daughters are also active members of the UNWLA: Vera is member-at-large in the UNWLA Executive Committee, and Natalia is a UNWLA svitlychka teacher. We would like to thank Mrs. Kushnir for her many years of service to the UNWLA and for raising three wonderful daughters who are following in her footsteps . Thank you, Teodozia Kushnir, for giving our organization such a priceless gift. From The Desk of the President By the time you receive this issue of Our Life , Christmas and New Year celebrations will be over. But although publication schedules cannot always match our expectations, I hope that those of you who celebrate by the old calendar had a joyous Christmas. With this first issue of 2006,1 would also like to wish all of our readers a happy, healthy, productive, and prosperous New Year. One of the most wonderful gifts all of us received this beautiful season was the gift of good wishes from special people, both those we see or speak with often and those we see and speak with seldom. Each card or letter received is meaningful, whether it depicts the Madonna and Christ Child or a family portrait or Christmas tree or a wooden church in a village in Ukraine or children carrying a vertep or some other tradi tional symbol or image. It is the kind words and the message of caring that matter, and it is these words that we read carefully and cherish most.
