NEWS FROM UNWLA HEADQUARTERS July 27, 2005. First meeting of community leaders to form a banquet committee to honor Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko and First Lady Kateryna Yushchenko, under the initiative of UCCA. Representing the UNWLA at the meeting was President Iryna Kurowyckyj, Second Vice President Marta Danyluk, Financial Secretary Roma Shuhan, and Editor-in-chief of Our Life , Irene Chaban. August 7, 2005. The president attended Den Soyuzanky hosted by New York Regional Council at Soyuzivka and presented Dr. Ihor Magun with a citation, originally was awarded to him in absentia during the 27th UNWLA Convention. August 11-12, 2005. The World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations held their Annual Meeting in Kyiv. UNWLA President Iryna Kurowyckyj and First Vice President Oxana Farion attended. (Please note that all expenses for attending this event were fully paid by these individuals, not from UNWLA funds). August 16, 2005. Iryna Kurowyckyj and Oxana Farion attended a meeting of a Human Rights Committee in Kharkiv, which works under the auspices of the Ukrainian World Congress. UNWLA Vice President Oxana Farion, President of Ukrainian World Congress Dr. Askold Lozynsky, clergy, and other visitors at the blessing of the plaque dedicated to Patriarch Joseph Slipyj, August 17-18, 2005. The Ukrainian World Congress held it annual meeting in Kharkiv. Iryna Kurowyckyj and Oxana Farion attended. The two day meeting agenda including numerous panels and discussions as well as several ceremonial functions, among these a visit to lay flowers at the statue of Taras Shevchenko and the statue of the Kobzars murdered by Stalin. We also attended the blessing of the plaques on the Kharkiv Opera House, commemorating the repression of Ukrainian intelligentsia, which began in 1932, and the blessing of a plaque on the building where Patriarch Joseph Slipyj was imprisoned. August 24, 2005. Iryna Kurowyckyj attended a ceremony hosted by New York's Mayor Michel Bloomberg to celebrate Women’s Suffrage Day. At that time, the UNWLA president was presented with the citation com memorating the 14th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence and proclaiming September 1 through 11 Ukrainian American Cultural Heritage Days.
