sky, excursion chair Halyna Logan, press chair Alisa Serdiuk, and boutique chair Irena Skalij. Each of these ladies is to be congratulated for a job well done and for displaying grace under fire at all times. Upon arrival, UNWLA members were greeted by members of the convention committee and presented with a handsome black and orange totebag, containing a wide array of materials related to seminars, small gifts, and a convention book. A bilingual collection of reports from members of the UNWLA Executive Board, Regional Councils, and Branches, the convention book also included letters from distinguished well wishers, the UNWLA prayer and hymn, and congratulatory messages from supporters and sponsors. A treasured memento of the convention, the publication serves as a testament to the work of the UNWLA and the diversity of its membership. It serves as well as a testament to the ability of UNWLA leaders and members to create order out of chaos. With the resignation of convention book committee chair Irena Chaban and other members of the convention book committee, the monumental task of editing and organizing materials for the publication was completed through the endeavors of UNWLA President Iryna Kuro wyckyj, Marta Danyluk, Oxana Farion, Katria Czerwoniak, and Maria Sorobey-Shtohryn. Editorial assistance was provided by Dr. Andriy Danylenko, Tamara Stadnychenko-Comelison, and Iryna Dany lenko. The XXVII UNWLA Convention began with a National Board Meeting held on Friday, May 27, 2005. Board members were welcomed by President Iryna Kurowyckyj who opened the meeting with a request that all present honor the memory of the late Barbara Bachynsky, the UNWLA's Social Welfare Committee Chair who passed away suddenly on May 10, 2005. Following a brief prayer for the success of the convention, minutes of the preceding board meeting were read by Recording Secretary Marta Danyluk. Financial Secretary Nadia Cwiach then presented her report, reminding those assembled about the need for all UNWLA members, branches, and regions to adhere to policies set forth in the UNWLA bylaws with respect to the use of UNWLA funds. Dr. Joanna Ratych, chair of the UNWLA Auditing Com mission, underscored the need for all UNWLA members to support Our Life, explaining that recent fundraising endeavors had provided only a temporary reprieve for the financially beleaguered publication. 32 President Iryna Kurowyckyj then thanked Parliamentarian Oksana Xenos for her work related to the UNWLA's participation in the Combined Federal Campaign. She indicated that Dr. Xenos's work has resulted in a new source of donations for the UNWLA, contributions from federal employees, including military personnel. Dr. Xenos spoke briefly about the UNWLA bylaws. Explaining that all bylaw changes must be submitted to the Internal Revenue Service, she recommended that creating a simplified, "bare bones" version of the current bylaws be considered as a practical alternative to the current version, which is quite lengthy. The existing document might then be used as a template for "organizational procedures." It was determined that this idea should be considered more fully after the convention. Convention Committee Chair Marianna Zajac reported that 250 UNWLA members had registered for the convention and that 300 people had registered for the convention banquet. Ab breviated reports were also presented by the organization's vice presidents and press chair Kateryna Nemyra. Following these, the discussion turned to nominations for Honorary Member. Board members were provided with a list of individuals proposed for this award, and votes were cast. Those selected to be honored were UNWLA's 1st Vice President Maria Tomorug; UNWLA Recording Secretary Marta Danyluk; Maria Nawarynsky, long time president of Chicago Regional Council; Northern New York Regional Council President Martha Stasiuk, Anna Rak, who served for twelve years as Treasurer of the Social Welfare Fund; and deputy of Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada and President of Soyuz Ukrainok of Ukraine Lilia Hryhorovych. In closing the meeting, President Iryna Kurowyckyj noted that the relocation of UNWLA headquarters has created a problem with postal deliveries, particularly when letters to the organ ization are addressed to individuals with no mention of the UNWLA. She requested that a notice be published in Our Life requesting that all cor respondence be addressed to the UNWLA, followed by the name of the intended recipient. Mrs. Kurowyckyj also spoke briefly about her decisions for accepting the nomination for an additional term as president, citing the numerous complexities ensuing from the relocation of UNWLA head quarters, problems with the organization's physical infrastructure, and assorted unfinished business. The board's consensus was that the organization would “Н А Ш Е Ж ИТТЯ”, ЧЕРВЕНЬ 2005 Видання C оюзу Українок A мерики - перевидано в електронному форматі в 2012 році . A рхів C У A - Ню Йорк , Н .
