we co-own with UCCA. (We own 40 % and UCCA owns 60%.) The building is in bad shape. New York City building codes have changed over the years and we were not in compliance with some of these codes. The renovations associated with this were expensive, more expensive than we first anticipated, and this has created a new financial difficulty for the organization. The office of the administration of Our Life is being moved from Matawan, New Jersey to UNWLA head quarters in New York City. Vice President Oxana Farion has computerized the list of subscribers to the magazine and their addresses and will now be in charge of coordinating this aspect of Our Life operations. Natalia Duma will be collecting subscription payments and donations to the magazine, which she has done for the past year. Orysia Jacus, who served as Our Life administrator for many years, was invited to con tinue working in our office in New York but declined. Irena Chaban, the editor in chief of Our Life , will continue compiling lists of donations to the magazine, a functions she has performed for the past year since financial considerations made it necessary to shorten working hours for N. Duma and O. Jacus to 15 hours per week respectively. On November 20, 2005, the Ukrainian Museum in New York opened its second consecutive inaugural exhibit. On display were many artifacts from the collection purchased by the UNWLA from Ukraine in 1933 for the Chicago Worlds Fair. Soon after, the UNWLA purchased two stories of a large building and founded the Ukrainian Museum in New York City, which was donated to the Ukrainian community in the United States in 1976. Coordinated by exhibit curator Luba Wolynec, the current exhibit is magnificent, and I encourage everyone to see these jewels of Ukrainian culture, which are also a part of our organiza tion's history. On Sunday, November 13, the UNWLA held the Christening and Blessing of its renovated fifth floor offices. This was the UNWLA’s first home in New York and the occasion was a special moment that was shared by our members and others in the community. The blessing was performed by Father Mario Dacechen from St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church and Father George Bazylewsky of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The godmothers selected for this special christening were presidents of the UNWLA Regional Councils; the godfathers were Myroslaw Shmigel, Chair of the Board of Directors of Self Reliance NY Federal Credit Union, and member of the board, Lubomyr Zielyk. Mrs. Maria Lozynsky from the Women’s Organization of Four Freedoms of Ukraine greeted the gathering and presented us with a gift from the organization. Olha Hnateyko, president of the Ukrainian Museum in New York also addressed the gathering, which included the UNWLA's Honorary members, presidents of the New York Branches, Executive Committee and National Board members, and other invited quests. A greeting was read from UNWLA Honorary President Anna Krawczuk who was unable to attend. A recep tion prepared by members of the Executive Committee (Mary Ann Zajac, Renata Zajac, and Vera Kushnir, with assistance from Marta Danyluk) followed, a festive ending to this historical ceremony. 1 would like to thank all of you for your generous gifts. The list of donations is published in the Ukrainian section of this month's issue of Our Life. I conclude this month's message with a word about organizations with which the UNWLA is currently affiliated: the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organization, the Ukrainian World Congress, and the Ukrainian World Coordinating Council. We support these organizations and their goals and appreciate their support for our organization and our goals. НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ГРУДЕНЬ 2005 11
