OUR LIFE Monthly, published by Ukrainian National Women’s League of America Vol. LXII DECEMBER 2005 Editor: TAMARA STADNYCHENKO From The Desk of the President As the end of the year approaches, I would like to share with UNWLA members and readers of Our Life some reflections on our organization as well as some information about recent events and plans for the coming year. Many of you attended the XXVII Convention of the UNWLA, which was held in Albany, New York. It was a successful convention, during which much was accomplished. Those who organized and hosted the convention prepared many interesting and entertaining programs for guests and participants. UNWLA members had the opportunity to share their views on many important issues that concern our organization and our community. Special thanks goes to Mary Ann Zajac, for her remarkable ability to serve as Con vention Chair and simultaneously fulfill her responsibilities as President of the Regional Council Central of New York. Because UNWLA rules of procedure state that one person cannot hold two positions concurrently, special dispensation for this had to be given by the UNWLA Executive Committee. It must be noted that permission for Ms. Zajac to serve in her dual role was granted with confidence that she would succeed and that she rose to the challenge exceptionally well, assisted by a convention committee that was small in number but exuberantly energetic and productive. All convention committee members are to be congratulated for a job well done. In connection with this, I would like to express my deep appreciation for the special endeavors of Marta Danyluk, who took over as Chair of the Publishing Committee of the convention book at the eleventh hour and made certain that it was published on time. At the convention, our organization celebrated a wonderful milestone: the 80th year of the UNWLA's exis tence. Fittingly, the convention theme revolved around the past, present, and future of the UNWLA, and guests and participants were reminded that the life of an organization is measured not in years but in its deeds and accomplishments. While we take great pride in the work of our predecessors, we ask ourselves Н А Ш Е Ж ИТТЯ”, ГРУДЕНЬ 2005 9
