New Jersey Regional Council Summary of Branch Activities for the year 2003 (English Language Reports) Branch 98 (Holmdel/Middletown). During the course of the year, Branch 98 held nine general Branch meet ings and three Board meetings. All Branch meetings are held in the homes of members, who live through out Monmouth County. Branch 98 sent a delegation to the UNWLA Convention held in Sarasota, Florida. Fundraising activities include a gift-wrapping project at the Holmdel Barnes & Noble bookstore during the Christmas season. Branch members host an annual Christmas party. In 2003, Branch members added a distinctive feature to this tradition by treating members and their guests to Eve of St. Andrew celebrations (Andriyivskiy Vechir). Branch members shared infor mation about how this ancient custom was practiced in Ukraine and demonstrated some of the rituals; a spe cial attraction at the event was fortune telling. Fundraising activities enable Branch 98 to fulfill its obligations to the UNWLA. Branch 98 is a member of the Ukrainian Museum in New York; five of our members also have individual membership in the UM. One hundred percent of our members sub scribe to Our Life magazine; three members fund sub scriptions to Ukraine; and one member funds a sub scription to Great Britain. With encouragement from our membership, two non-UNWLA members have also subscribed to the magazine. With the Monmouth County Library as a co sponsor, Branch 98 hosted a follow-up program on Trafficking in Women to raise awareness about this global crime. Other Branch events are also planned at the library. Our members are committed to the UN- WLA's Social Welfare mission and some have regis tered to serve as translators at the Bayshore Hospital in Holmdel. Branch members are troubled by the fact that no help or advice is given to new immigrants from Ukraine, women in need, the elderly, and other Ukrainian Americans in the immediate area who need special assistance. The Branch has two Social Welfare co-chairs; both are professional social workers. Branch 98 has been most successful in sup porting the UNWLA Scholarship Program. In 2003, Branch members and eight additional sponsors con tributed $3,923 to the program, an amount which funded 25 stipends.
