Ukrainian National Women’s League of America Responds to Terrorist Attacks On September 11, 2001, we witnessed a terrible tragedy. Like all Americans, members o f the UNWLA felt compelled to contribute to the relief efforts aimed at supporting the victims o f the terrorist attacks and the families of the firefighters and police officers who died in the line o f duty. While many individual UNWLA members gave blood or money to support relief efforts, others decided to contribute collectively through UNWLA branches. In this issue o f Our Life we would like to share with our readers letters that were forwarded to the American Red Cross and the New York Firefighters Memorial Fund from UNWLA Headquarters on behalf o f our membership, together with a list o f those who participated in this generous gesture. Millions around the world watched in horror and then watched with awe as Americans resolutely came together to help the victims o f this terrible tragedy. America gave blood, gave time, and gave money. As usual, in times o f disaster, we turned to the American Red Cross, an organization that has the infrastructure and the experience necessary to coordinate massive aid efforts. The Ukrainian National W omen’s League o f America, headquartered in New York City, is proud to be part o f this relief effort. While many of our members have already made individual contributions to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, others felt a need to contribute through the UNWLA - a gesture o f solidarity from one humanitarian organization to another. I am pleased to enclose checks totaling $925.00 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and the American Red Cross, which were forwarded to UNWLA headquarters by our branches and UNWLA members. Also enclosed is a list of contributors. Very truly yours, Iryna Kurowyckyj, President Ukrainian National W omen’s League o f America, Inc.
