dementia, which tends to creep up and eventually cause severe memory loss. Treatment, albeit limited, is available, but it works best when started at an early age. On the other hand, worrying excessively about normal age-related memory loss or about dementia often does more harm than good. Fortunately, everyone is so busy that we literally do not remember to think about memory unless someone close to us suffers from memory loss. Research studies conclusively show that indi viduals who stay mentally active, read, do crossword puzzles, and engage in thinking about or discussing thought provoking topics maintain a better memory pattern than those who do not.
