Throughout the Ukrainian Museum’s history, the UNWLA has been supportive in many ways. In 1976, the UNWLA purchased a building to temporarily house the museum’s artifacts at a token monthly rental rate of $1.00. UNWLA Branches pay annual $100.00 dues to the Museum. Some Branches are active participants in the museum’s fund raising efforts. Branch 67 of Philadelphia, for example, named itself the “Museum Branch”. Members of the branch operate a kiosk which helps raise funds for the museum and frequently promote other fund raising endeavors. Other UNWLA branches have held lotteries or other special events to help the museum. Over the years, many individual UNWLA members have become generous patrons and donors. UNWLA members volunteer their services to museum projects and exhibits and donate articles which are sold in the museum store. The UNWLA’s most recent contribution to the Ukrainian Museum, announced on November 2, 1997, at the blessing of the cornerstone of the future museum building, was a library. We also support the Ukrainian Museum by helping to publicize its events and activities. Articles about the Ukrainian Museum and donor lists are regularly featured in the pages of Our Life. This year, as the Ukrainian Museum celebrates its 25th Anniversary, we ask that Regional Councils and Branches make a special effort to promote the importance of the Ukrainian Museum, not only within the Ukrainian community but to the general American public as well. This is especially important as construction on the new museum building will soon begin. The Ukrainian Museum is not a local project and we urge all UNWLA members, branches and regional councils to support it through special programs, events, and fund raisers. We propose and encourage a special membership drive for individuals who are not currently members of the UNWLA or the Ukrainian Museum. Remind potential donors that dues to the museum are only $30.00 per year. That comes to $2.50 per month, a sum that everyone can comfortably afford. * * * On a sad note, the UNWLA Executive Committee and National Board extend sincere condolences to Maria Kramarchuk of Rochester, New York on the loss of her husband, Ivan Kramarchuk. Long time president of the New York North Regional Council, Mrs. Kramarchuk is now an Honorary Member of the UNWLA. Our dear Mrs. Kramarchuk, please accept our deepest sympathy during this very difficult time. Our thoughs and prayers are with you. * * * It is with a mixture of pleasure and regret that we bid goodbye to Slava Rubel as she leaves her post as Press Chair of the UNLWA Executive Committee to assume her new responsibilities as head of the Supreme Plast Bulava. A long time member of UNWLA Branch 64, Slava Rubel has served as chair of the UNWLA Press Committee since 1994. During her tenure, she headed the committees responsible for publishing the Convention Books for 1996 and 1999. We thank her for her generous work the UNWLA and wish her many successes as she faces the challenges of her new position. NEWS FROM UNWLA HEADQUARTERS • December 15, 2000.
