Branch 98 is women's rights issues. Among these issues is trafficking in women, especially as it affects women from Ukraine. After viewing the video on trafficking in women that was aired on NBC's "Dateline" with Maria Shriver as commentator, members of Branch 98 realized that it was important to pursue this issue further by keeping the public informed about it. On April 27, 2001, we will be hosting a panel discussion entitled "Trafficking in Women In Our Backyard." The event, open to the public, will he held in Matawan, NJ. A second panel discussion on this issue will be held on June 4, 2001 at the Monmouth County Library-Eastern Branch in Shrewsbury, NJ. Editor's Note: The author is Honorary President o f the UNWLA. Members have had experience celebrating their good works for charity in the Ukrainian community for 40 years. Thus, on January 20, 2001, they hosted a very successful 40th Anniversary Celebration at the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Chicago. The Jubilee Committee, headed by Julia Kokorudz, organized a fine dinner, program, and awards ceremony. Other committee members were O.D. Kochman, D. Jarosewich, R. Halibej, E. Wyshnytzky, K. Iwasyszyn, I. Pyskir Oleksiuk, O. Diachenko, M. Hrynewycz, and Branch President E. Zelenko. During the festivities, Chicago Regional Council President and member of the UNWLA National Board Luba Kalin (also a member of our branch), presented Branch 29 with a congratulatory certificate from the UNWLA Executive Committee. After a delicious dinner, MC Daria Jarosewich read congratulatory messages from other UNWLA branches, from Branch 29 members who were unable to attend the event, and from other community organizations. She also read a very special letter from L. Jarosewich, a founding member of the branch. Joining us after a long sabbatical, was the vocal ensemble Trio Pisnia. Dressed in beautiful Trypillian costumes, Natalka Masnyk, Liusia Oleksiuk and Vera Dzulynski enhanced the friendly and festive ambiance of the celebration with several lovely songs. Their talented accompanist was Orysia Pokoma. Following the musical interlude, Daria Jarosewich and Irene Pyskir Oleksiuk read their “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, КВІТЕНЬ 2001 15
