During the celebra tory luncheon, certificates were presented to 50- year members of the UNWLA, the Regional president Maria Rakowska and to Branch presi dents. The keynote address was delivered by UNWLA President Iryna Kurowyckyj. • March 30, 2000. The UNWLA received invita tions from the Polish Consulate and the Ukrainian Consulate to take part in a conference on the im portance of the U.S. Census. Because emigres and U.S. citizens from Eastern Europe are often omitted from census statistics, it was emphasized that all residents of the U.S. with an Eastern Euro pean heritage, even those residing in the country on an extended visa, should fill out the census forms. • March 31, 2000. The Board of Directors of the Ukrainian Museum held a special meeting. • April 1, 2000. UNWLA President Iryna Kurowy ckyj took part in the inaugural meeting of the newly organized Branch 126 in Boston. Organized by Lili Holovisnky in loving memory of her mother who passed away last May, the Branch is a tribute to mothers and daughters alike. At the meeting, Susanna Shpak was elected president. • April 4, 2000. UNWLA President Iryna Kurowy ckyj met with a group of women from the “fourth wave” who are planning to create a new branch and become members of the UNWLA. • April 12, 2000. A newly organized UNWLA branch in New York held its first meeting. Presi dent Iryna Kurowyckyj and president of the New York Regional Council Nadia Sawczuk attended. * * * The Regional Council o f New Jersey is celebrating the 75th anniversary o f the UNWLA this month. The National Board extends greetings and best wishes fo r success. WOMAN IN A KALEIDOSCOPE by Tamara Stadnychenko The Philadelphia Regional Council marked the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Ukrainian National Women's League of America in a program held on March 26, 2000. More than two hundred and fifty guests attended the commemorative festivities which were held at the Ukrainian Educational and Cul tural Center in Jenkintown, PA. Regional Council President Maria Rakowska warmly welcomed those attending the event, including members of the UNWLA Executive Committee and other community dignitaries. The keynote speaker of the event was UNLWA President Iryna Kurowyckyj who delivered a stirring summation of the work and accomplish ments of the UNWLA over the last seventy-five years. An English language history of the UNWLA was pre sented by Stefania Wowchok. Highlights of the pro gram, emceed by Ludmyla Chajkowsky, included the presentation of citations to Regional President Maria Rakowka and the presidents of the Region's branches, a symbolic candle-lighting ceremony, and the singing of the UNWLA hymn. During the banquet, those women who had been members of the UNWLA for fifty years or longer were honored for their dedication to the organization.
