July 17,1999. Soyuzanka Day was held by the New Jersey Regional Council. The event was attended by UNWLA President Iryna Kurowyckyj, Honorary President Anna Krawczuk, Honorary Member Iwan na Ratych and National Board Member Luba Bi- lowtshchuk. August 14,1999. Meeting of the Executive Board of the UNWLA. Plans were agreed upon, dates for fu ture meetings were set, prospectives for future work of the Social Welfare Committee were discussed. August 22, 1999. Soyuzanka Day was hosted at Soyuzivka by the New York Regional Council. President Iiyna Kurowyckyj attended and shared her plans for the UNWLA. Representing the National Board at the event were Iryna Steckiw, Jaroslawa Rubel and Nadia Shmigel. The 25th Convention of the Ukrainian National Women's League of America greets the government and the people of the United States. 2. The 25th Convention of the UNWLA greets the Presi dent of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. 3. The 25th Convention greets the hierarchy of the Ukrain ian churches in the diaspora and Ukraine. 4. The 25th Convention of the UNWLA greets the organ ized women of the world. 5. The 25th Convention greets Iwanna Rozankowski, Hon orary President of the UNWLA, and the Honorary Members of the UNWLA. MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE 1. Coordinate collaborative works among branches and keep in close contact with them. Strengthen the dialogue among members, branches and regional councils. 2. Develop the work of the membership committees of branches and regional councils. Work up and implement a plan to increase UNWLA membership. 3. Regional Councils and branches are obligated to inform their membership about newsletters or circulars from headquarters and to implement their directives. To hold meetings once a month and to uphold the by-laws of the UNWLA. 4. To initiate contact with newly arrived women from Ukraine and to encourage them to join the UNWLA. CULTURAL COMMITTEE 1. The UNWLA, in accordance with its historical past, will continue to care about preserving the cultural achieve ments of Ukraine. The love and respect for these achievements has been nurtured throughout the history of the UNWLA. 2. To encourage branches to share publications about Ukraine, especially with libraries in the United States. 3. Continue to disseminate information about the culture of Ukraine. 4. Encourage others to learn about the contributions of women to the history and culture of Ukraine and other countries where women of Ukrainian heritage reside. 5. March is Women's History month. It is suggested that the UNWLA make use of this in joint actions with other women's organizations in the area. PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE 1. Members should monitor the programs of the US gov ernment and other countries of the world in their efforts to help Ukraine in the cleanup work related to the Chor- nobyl nuclear disaster. Members are encouraged to send letters to their senators and congressmen concerning this matter, especially at re-election time. 2. Actively participate in the American political arena. 3. Continue active collaboration with the National Council of Women of the US and other women's organizations, both here and in Ukraine, which have similar interests. Joint actions will ensure success. 4. Initiate contact with institutions of mass information at the city level, acquaint them with our plans, keep them informed about Ukrainian issues. SOCIAL WELFARE COMMITTEE 1. Create a commission to acquire a home for retired peo ple, taking into account the necessary requirements for this undertaking such as available medical care and con tact with community life. 2. Continue to collect funds for needed actions both in the United States and Ukraine. SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTE 1.
