UNWLA DELEGATION VISITS ZAKARPATSKA OBLAST A UNWLA delegation, consisting of President Anna Krawczuk, Lidia Czemyk and Anna Rak, visited the flood damaged Zakarpatska oblast April 19 to April 30, 1999. Accompanied by Oksana Lopatynsky from the Self Reliance Association in New York City, the group arrived in Lviv. They revisited the Lviv Children's Hospital where Dr. Oleksander Myndiuk presented them with a citation. They also visited Children's Homes and personally oversaw some of the distribution of aid to flood victims in the Zakarpatska oblast. Returning through Kyiv, they visited Soyuz Ukrainian Headquarters and offered personal condolences to Soyuz Ukrainok President Atena Pashko whose husband, Viacheslav Chomovil, a deputy of the Ukrainian parliament (Verkhovna Rada), tragically lost his life in an automobile accident on March 25, 1999. "Milena Rudnytzka - Documents, Speeches" was presented to President Pashko by Anna Krawczuk and Martha Bohachevsky Chomiak, editor-in-chief of this historic UNWLA publication. Members of the delegation thanked Soyuz Ukrainok of Ukraine for their cooperation in the monumental joint humanitarian project which had united people from both sides of the Atlantic. Congratulations were offered on the reestablishment of the National Council of Women in Ukraine and on the election of its president, Iryna Golubeva. We hope and believe that the NCW/Ukraine will be readmitted to the International Council of Women in the near future. In Kyiv, a meeting with Dr. Volodymyr S. Oryshko, Ambassador Director of the Directorate on Foreign Policies Issues, was attended by Lily Hryhorovych, Deputy of the Ukrainian Parliament and Vice President of Soyuz Ukrainok, Atena Pashko, Anna Krawczuk, and Lidia Czemyk. Important information was exchanged regarding UNWLA's numerous programs, including the Chornobyl fund and the organization's humanitarian aid efforts in Zakarpattia. Kyiv.
