Ambassador to the US Dr. Jurij Shcherbak and Mrs. Maria Shcherbak as they prepared for their return to Ukraine. President Anna Krawczuk gave a brief speech and thanked the Ambassador and Mrs. Shcherbak for everything that they have done for the UNWLA. Mrs. Krawczuk presented them with seven copies of "Nature and Us". Walter Nazarewycz, president of the Ukrainian Institute of America, presented the couple with a gift and in his farewell speech thanked them for their understanding and cooperation. Victor Satzewich, Associate Professor of the Department of Sociology of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, visited the UNWLA Scholarship Program Office. The purpose of his visit was to learn more about the UNWLA, its history and activities, for a comparative study between the UNWLA and its Canadian counterparts. The 7th Ukrainian World Congress was held at the Weston Harbour Hotel. Askold Lozynskyj of the USA was elected President for a five year term. Representing the WFUWO, Anna Krawczuk was elected a member of the Presidium. Olha Trytyak was chosen 2nd VP of the Social Welfare Committee of the WCU, and Lidia Czemyk was selected member of its auditing committee. The 7th Congress Presidium was chaired by Taras Pidzamecky and Anna Krawczuk was elected second of the six vice presidents, Barbara Bachynsky — recording secretary. It was a great honor for the UNWLA to have two members of its Executive Committee elected to the Presidium. There were four round table sessions and Anna Krawczuk was moderator of Panel 2, "The Ukrainian Diaspora in the New Era." Moderators of the other sessions were V. Pedenko, Y. Kulas and M. Diakovskij.
