4. Plan and prepare various means of marking our organization’s jubilee-in our communities with events such as conferences, exhibitions, get-togethers. 5. Encourage our members to expand their studies and interest about the culture of Ukraine, as^well as about the Ukrainian communities in the United States. 6. Donate English-language books about Ukraine and The Ukrainian Museum exhibition catalogues to American libraries. Public Relations Chair 1. Members should monitor the actions of the Uni ted States, which had promised, along with governments of other countries, to help Ukraine in the clean up fol lowing the Chornobyl nuclear explosion. Members should write letters to their congressmen and senators concerning this issue, particularly during the re-election period. 2. Actively participate in American political parties. Our involvement will help in the realization of actions which are in our interest. Continue active cooperation with the National Council of Women of the U.S. and with other women’s organizations here, and in Ukraine, with whom we share common goals. Cooperation pre cipitates success. 3. Develop contacts with the mass media in our immediate communities and inform them about our work and activities, as well as about Ukraine. Art and Museum Chair In supporting the resolutions of the previous conven tions, we propose: 1. In celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Ukrain ian Museum in New York City in 1996, all branches and Regional Councils should mark the date with various events to benefit the Museum’s Building Fund. Education Chair 1. Adhere to all resolutions of the previous con ventions. 2. We encourage all Education Chairs and branch presidents to insist that their local school boards make sure the historical changes which have occurred re cently, particularly with reference to Ukraine, are inclu ded in the new school texts. Social Welfare Chair 1. Support the Social Welfare Funds. 2. Continue to help needy Ukrainian families, espe cially orphans and the elderly in Ukraine and in other countries. 3. Focus attention on helping the elderly, needy individuals, who live alone, particularly those who are members of UNWLA. 4. Coordinate the aid managed under the UNWLA’s Social Welfare Program and distribute it according to need. Press Chair 1. Develop a working relationship with press chairs of Regional Councils and those from branches through organized inter-regional conferences. 2. Encourage press chairs to disseminate informa tion about the work of the UNWLA by providing the press with news material. UNWLA Scholarship/Student Sponsorship Chair 1. Adhere to all resolutions and recommendations of the previous conventions. 2. To prepare a plan for expanding and increasing scholarship program in Ukraine. Ecology 1. Make sure that the UNICEF conference held under the auspices of the United Nations remembers the children of.Chornobyl. 2. As an NGO (non-governmental organization) we should take part in local, state and national activities which show concern for the issue of pollution in the environment. 3. Make continuous use of publications and other materials to educate children, starting with preschool, about the preservation of our environment. Financial Chair Recommendation: 1; Prepare an English language manual concerning the management of finances for branches, in order to understand and comply with IRS rules. 2. Organize inter-regional financial conferences. General Recommendations 1.
