RESOLUTIONS OF THE XXIVth CONVENTION OF THE UKRAINIAN NATIONAL WOMEN'S LEAGUE OF AMERICA 1. The Convention extends greetings to the Ameri can people and the President of the United States. 2. The Convention extends greetings to the Presi dent of Ukraine and to the Ukarinian people, on the fifth anniversary of their independence. 3. The Convention extends greetings to the hie rarchy of the Ukrainian churches in the diaspora and Ukraine. 4. The convention extends greetings to Ukrainian women’s organizations throughout the world. 5. In marking the sorrowful 10th anniversary of the Chornobyl catastrophe, the XXIVth Convention of the UNWLA has created an Ecology Chair on its National Board. The responsibility of the new chairmanship will be to take advantage of every possible opportunity to inform the immediate and greater communities about the consequences of nuclear pollution. 6. The XXIVth Convention of the UNWLA noted that the organization has provided 70 years of community service. Its founders, leaders and the general member ship were commended. As of now, we are making prep arations for the 75th birthday of our organization, which will occur in the new century, the year 2000. Recommendations Membership Chair Branches 1. Every branch should have a membership chair. 2. Every branch should try to encourage as many members as possible to join the branch, or to become members-at-large. Recommendations for Regional Councils: 1. Organize membership seminars, inviting branch presidents, membership chairs and interested members of the organization. a) familiarize the general membership with the his tory and by-laws of the UNWLA b) familiarize the membership with the work of the World Federation of the Ukrainian Women’s Organiza tion (WFUWO), as well as with American women’s organizations 2. On the basis of the annual reports of the branches, continue to develop information on the branches and their general characteristics. 3. Introduce information about the UNWLA to stu dents of Ukrainian schools and to groups in higher edu cation schools (on the order of the American "Junio- rettes”). 4. Explore all possibilities in organizing new bran ches. Culture Chair Preparing for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of our organization, we urge members of UNWLA to: 1. Review and arrange in order the archival mate rials of branches and Regional Councils. 2. Within the realm of possibility, interview and preserve conversations with elderly members concerning their work within the organization. 3.
