Kuzyszyn For half a century Our Life has uninterruptedly served as the voice of UNWLA, uniting Ukrainian women in the United States in service to their communities and their ancestral homeland, Ukraine. On this auspicious 50th anniversary of the magazine I salute its honored history and the individuals who influenced its course. Congratulations and best wishes to the current editors, who are continuing the exellent tradition of Our Life. ANNA KRAWCZUK, UNWLA President THE GOLDEN KEY Looking back when the first issue of “Our Life” magazine appeared 50 years ago, we must stop and realize that the year 1944 was the year of World War II. The world was in turmoil, and the Iron Curtain enfolded our, and our forefathers’, homeland Ukraine.lt is at this time that the decision was made to speak out in print, to record the historical events, to preserve Ukrainian iden tity, when being Ukrainian was unpopular and oftentime even ridiculed. And now in the year of 1994, it is the only Ukrainian women’s magazine in the USA with a fifty year old history of uninterrupted publishing.
