THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM CHAIR 1. To continue UNWLA’s Scholarship Program in South America, the United States and Eastern European countries, particularly in Ukraine. 2. To give particular attention to recipients of UNWLA scholarships from former Yugoslavia. 3. To organize the UNWLA Inc. Scholarship Program Alumni Association of former UNWLA scholarship recipients in Brazil. The aim of this Association will be the creation of a fund which will support the scholarship program for students in that country. PUBLIC RELATIONS CHAIR 1. To continue to support the networking with women’s organizations in Ukraine. 2. To work with American women’s organizations. 3. To encourage members, as USA citizens, to partici pate in the local, state and nation-wide election processes. THE FINANCIAL COMMITTEE 1. To raise the dues of each branch by 10 percent. 2. To raise the dues of each member of the organization by $1. These changes are retroactive to January 1993. THE RESOLUTIONS COMMITTEE Anastazia Charysh — President Natalia Hewko Christine Nawrocky Irene Russnak Iwanna Shkarupa UNWLA MEMBER — RECIPIENT OF TEACHING EXCELLENCE AWARD Myroslava Stojko Myroslava Sojko, who for the past 26 years has been a teacher in the New Jersey educational system, was honored recently by being nominated and selected as one of the four recipients for the New Brunswick Community Teacher Excellence Award. This singular distinction is a public display of appreciation by the James E. Burke Family Foundation and the New Brunswick community of the exceptional work done by outstanding teachers. Ms. Stojko is a teacher of biology and physiology at St. Peter’s High School. She holds a degree in Zoology from Hunter College and Masters degrees in German language and literature from Rutgers University. In the classroom, Ms. Stojko is an educator as well as an instructor, and encourages her students to become aware of and participate in broader community activities. Outside of school, Myroslava Stojko is active in the Ukrainian community. She is a member of UNWLA Branch 65 where she holds the post of the Culture Chair. She has taught Ukrainian at Saturday School con nected with her parish and has helped with the many relief efforts directed toward Ukraine, particularly its orphans and children — victims of Chornobil. Upon being told of her selection as one of the award recipients, Ms. Stojko said: “I would like to express my deep appreciation for the much needed recognition of all qualified and caring educators. Such awards are valuable in promoting levels of excellence in our worthy field and attracting devoted candidates into the teach ing profession who will nurture and challenge our most important resource — the minds of future generations.” UNWLA and OUR LIFE congratulates Ms. Stojko for this achievement. ’’НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЛИПЕНЬ-СЕРПЕНЬ 1993 23
