RESOLUTIONS OF THE XXIIIrd CONVENTION OF THE UNWLA 1. The XXIIIrd Convention of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America salutes the President of the United States of America Bill Clinton and the American people 2. The Convention salutes the President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk and the Ukrainian people on the second anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. 3. The Convention extends greetings to the leaders of Ukrainian churches in the Diaspora and in Ukraine. 4. The Convention extends greetings to women’s organizations in Ukraine. 5. UNWLA will commemorate Olena Lototsky on the hundredth anniversary of her birth on May 23, 1994. She was the cofounder of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, its long time President, later Honorary President, and a noted citizen of the Ukrainian immigration to the United States of America. The Convention supports the resolutions of the preceding Conventions and charges. THE MEMBERSHIP CHAIR Branches 1. To encourage and expand the recruitment of new members. 2. To make sure that when a member moves, she joins a branch in her new location. Otherwise, she should remain a member of her original branch, or become a member-at-large. Regional Councils 1. To investigate where within their jurisdiction a new branch could be formed, especially one that would appeal to younger women. 2. To guide the new branch into the mainstream of UNWLA activities and make sure that the new mem bers become familiar with the history and achieve ments of the organization. 3. To investigate the possibility of reorganizing inactive branches and bringing them back to active status. THE CULTURE/EDUCATION CHAIR 1. To continue teaching the Ukrainian language in order to ensure its preservation. 2. To mark the contributions of noted women to the his tory and culture of our nation each year in March. 3. To donate publications written by authors in the Diaspora to libraries in Ukraine. THE ART/MUSEUM CHAIR 1. To care for the preservation of the Ukrainian folk cul ture, particularly the folk costume. 2. To arrange courses in folk crafts for children and youth. 3. To participate in the fundraising campaigns launched by The Ukrainian Museum, thereby helping in the development of a representative museum facility in New York City. 4. To work on a mass membership recruitment to The Ukrainian Museum. THE EDUCATION CHAIR 1. To make sure that our children learn the Ukrainian language. This includes: a) Providing help to teachers who are engaged in UNWLA-managed pre-schools and Ukrainian studies schools. b) To publish advice to parents in OUR LIFE ma gazine. 2. To organize libraries of children’s literature with each pre-school. THE SOCIAL WELFARE CHAIR 1. To support the Medical Aid for Children and Youth — Victims of Chornobil Fund and the Social Welfare Fund — Aid to the Needy in Ukraine. 2. To continue to provide aid to Ukrainian families and “Grandmothers,” 3. To provide aid to the elderly, who are alone, par ticularly to the UNWLA members. 4. To coordinate the aid provided by the UNWLA and distribute it according to need. THE PRESS CHAIR 1. To encourage Regional Councils to mark the 50th anniversary of OUR LIFE. 2. To write about the work of UNWLA in OUR LIFE and in other Ukrainian publications. Also, to provide simi lar material in the English language. 3. To encourage branches and individual members of UNWLA to fund subscriptions of OUR LIFE for women in Ukraine. 4. To encourage branches to continue their sponsor ship of pages in OUR LIFE. 5.
