O UR LIFE Monthly, published by Ukrainian National Women’s League of America VOL. L JULY-AUGUST 1993 Editor: Marta Baczynsky UNWLA’s XXIII Convention held in May this year was an important event for our organiza tion and for our community. Through its numerous branches operating in most major cities in the United States, UNWLA actively participates in activities that influence our lives here, where we live, as well as the lives of our sisters and brothers in Ukraine. UNWLA is a viable, credible, strong organization whose accomplishments and achieve ments are recognized and respected. During the Convention salutations were received from various sources in the U.S. and Ukraine — from heads of religious institutions, government and civic leaders, as well as from organizations and private individuals in the community. Their collective words of commendation and support are welcome and appreciated. Dear Friends; May 30, 1993 It gives me great pleasure to extend my warmest greetings to all those attending the 23rd Annual National Convention of the Ukrainian Women's League of Ame rica. The organizers and participants of this event should take great pride in the services they provide to the community. In raising funds for your fellow citizens and numerous worthy charities, you act as an inspiration to other organizations and individuals to do the same. >4s we approach the 60th Anniversary of the geno- cidal famine in Ukraine, we should take the opportunity to reflect on the horrible atrocities of that period and their meaning in today's society. The bill that I sponsored as a U.S. Congressman, established the Ukrainian Fa mine Commission. Their findings will help to educate future generations to create a society free of prejudice and bigotry. Your foundation is making a solid investment in the future of our children. This worthy effort is to be com mended and your dedication deserves our sincere res pect and deepest thanks. Again, my best wishes for a successful and enjoyable convention. Very truly yours May 24, 1993 ANNA KRAWCZUK UKRAINIAN NATIONAL WOMENS' LEAGUE OF AMERICA 18 TELEGRAPH HILL ROAD HOLMDEL, NJ 07733 DEAR MRS. KRAWCZUK: Thank you for inviting me to attend your National Convention banquet Unfortunately, I shall be unable to attend due to other obligations. Please allow me the opportunity to wish your mem bers and guests my best wishes for a successful con vention here in New Jersey. A National Convention provides us with the op portunity to review and renew the goals for an orga nization. This gathering allows members to renew old friendships, as well as establish new ones with people who have common interests. This mixture of “business and pleasure” is what brings us together and gives us warm feelings of camaraderie. Once again, my best wishes to you and the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America. Sincerely, G eortfl A. M izluk New Jersey State Commander U k ra in ian American Veterans "НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЛИПЕНЬ-СЕРПЕНЬ 1993 21
