On February 17,1990 the paintings and drawings of Ukrainian artist Valerij Hnatenko will be exhibited at the Ukrainian Museum in New York City. “Valerij Hnatenko died when he was 40 years old. Through his life he never had a personal exhibition of his work. We lost an unusual talent which we did not have th e ’opportunity to recognize. Today, experts de clare that in his work there is a definite statement of life without compromises. On the 16th of March he would have been 41 years old. Someone brought flowers into the exhibition gallery and placed them on the table near the visitor’s book. These flowers are much too late, as is the his exhibit.” (from "Leninska Molod’ ”, March 26, 1988; Translated from Ukrainian) Портрет дружини 1972 p., папір, темпера.
