The UKRAINIAN LVIV YOUTH THEATER Сцена з вистави "Маруся Чурай” Ліни Костенко. Фото К. Сліпченко. Scene from Nina Kostenko's play "Marusia Churay". Photo by K. Slipchenko. The architecture of the old city of Lviv is in itself a natural theatrical setting. Lina Kostenko’s dramatic poem Snow in Florence was the piece performed, which had to do with the story of a sculptor Giovanni Francesco Rosticce, during the Renaissance. The plot of the play puts Rosticce, an old man, in a town far away from his beloved Italy, where he comes face to face with the follies of his youth. The dialogue in the play is swift, poignant and well delivered by actors Volodymyr Kuchynsky, Oleksandr Hrechanovsky and Oleh Dracz. Writer Lina Kostenko refers to the arts as the purifiers of though in times of violence, intrigues and villainy. It is no wonder that in her creative work, Kos tenko gives the artist, his destiny and his fate, primary consideration. Marusia Churaj the romantic novel in poetry form speaks about a legendary Ukrainian poetess of the 17th century. The play based on this work is called Proshcha (retreat), and featured the able young actress Tetiana Kaspruk. The decorations for the play were executed by graphic artist Andrij Humeniuk, who stylized religious art of Ukrainian wooden churches, and built his set based on the principles of the iconostasis. The ethnographical element is very much present Видання C оюзу Українок A мерики - перевидано в електронному форматі в 2012 році . A рхів C У A - Ню Йорк , Н . Й . C Ш A.
