OUR LIFE Monthly, published by Ukrainian National Women's League of America VOL. XLV JULY-AUGUST 1988 Editor: Marta Baczynsky The following are letters from a collection of “Writings and Epistles” of Metropoli tan Andrej Sheptytskyj, which are very appropriate at this time during the comme moration of the Millennium of Christianity in Ukraine. MY LETTER to all Orthodox Archbishops and Bishops in Ukraine. To achieve our national ideals we need to unite, but even with our most positive efforts in that direction, cir cumstances may be such that these goals cannot be attained. I realize that it is not easy to accomplish such a task, however, from my point of view, I want to present the necessary conditions to such unity. First of all, I think, we all must strive for reconcilia tion, which should be desired by the churchmen and all our faithful. Further, we must pray for this solidarity. We must hold services where the clergy and people would pray together to ask God for special graces. Finally, it is necessary that both sides be ready to make allowances. When the Gospel compels us to deny ourselves to the point of giving up our soul, then more so we must deny ourselves everything, as much as our conscience will allow, which may hinder the achievement of unification. We must be honest with each other and have a free exchange of ideas on all life and theological issues which are related to the unity of our Churches. Because I wish to present the opportunity for objec- Servant of God, Metropolitan Andrej Sheptyckyj. Видання C оюзу Українок A мерики - перевидано в електронному форматі в 2012 році .
