ABOUT WOMEN Joy Brittan with Mayor of Las Vegas, Don Lurie. The Las Vegas singing star Joy Brittan has set aside her traditional show business career in favor of celebrating her Ukrainian heritage during the 1988 Millennium Year. The Canadian born performer will tour the United States, Canada, South America and Europe, where she will appear at various Ukrainian centers. Joy will donate the fees from her personal appearances to the Nevada Ukrainian Millennium Committee, which is coordinating her tour. The donated fees will allow the inclusion of Ukrainian schools, churches, hospitals, senior citizens centers and small community festivals in the tour, there by giving that segment of the Ukrainian population an opportunity to enjoy the singer’s performances. Joy Brittan is currently preparing a special com memorative album of treasured Ukrainian religious songs. It will be titled “Our Father — Ukrainian Millennium.” Proceeds from the sale of the recording will be donated, in part, to the Harvard University Ukrainian Studies Fund, as well as various Ukrainian religious benefits. Joy, born Joyce Kozody in Pine Falls, Manitoba, has made her mark as a professional entertainer in one of the toughest towns to be noticed — Las Vegas, Nev ada. Appearing in Don Arden’s lavish show biz extrava ganza “Jubilee” at the MGB Grand Hotel for three years as one of the principal singers, the performer drew rave reviews from the press. Mayor of Las Vegas, Don Lurie has appointed Joy Brittan a “Goodwill Ambassador of Las Vegas” as she prepared to embark on her extended tour. All inquiries regarding Joy Brittan’s tour and availa bility should be addressed to the: Nevada Ukrainian Millennium Committee, 5230 Wilbur Street Las Vegas, NE 89119 (702)739-9721 To Our Ukrainian Friends: On behalf of the citizens of Las Vegas, I congratu late you on the celebration of the first Millennium of Christianity in Ukraine. Throughout 1988, as you observe the millennium of your religious legacy, we hope you will continue to preserve with pride your rich heritage of faith and culture which extends back fifty generations. For those of you planning a vacation during the celebration of the millennium, I invite you to visit Las Vegas, for a taste of warm western hospitality. Sincerely, Ron Lurie Mayor of Las Vegas Mrs. Olena Terelia and her husband Joseph Terelia were guests at UNWLA headquarters recently. The event, sponsored by the NY Regional Council, was prepared as a special evening reception to meet the well known activist couple, particularly Mrs. Terelia who was to be the principal speaker from a woman’s viewpoint, so to speak, about life and conditions in Ukraine. Mrs. Tere lia, a no nonsense woman, endeared herself to the audience with a particular remark which clearly and unmistakably underscored just how “unliberated” we really are. There was an air of anticipation in the room. Those present, only women, members of the Executive Board, Regional Council members, and members of UNWLA, seated at two long tables eagerly cranked their necks to see if the door was opening to usher in the guest of honor. The tables were prettily decorated with flowers and generous plates of delectable and aromatic canapes. The door opened, but it was only a latecomer. Then, a group of women walked in.
