До речі, Комітет Тися чоліття плянує подарувати кожному членові Амери канського Конгресу і деяким членам адміністрації писанку з нагоди Великодня в цьому святому, неповторному році 1988. При цій нагоді, д-р Юрій Солтис, предсідник Крайового Комітету, пояснив українську традицію вітання хлібом і сіллю: "це означає, що ми готові ділитися добром і злом, і радістю і горем” . Він проголосив, що наступного місяця появляться по всій Америці великі афіші ("Billboards") з написом: "Тисячоліття Христянства в Україні. Святкуйте з нами!” Подякувавши всім тим, що підтримали цю резо лю цію в Конгресі, д-р Солтис представив деяких членів Крайового Комітету: д-ра Юрія Старосоль- ського голову, Надію МкКоннелл, суддю Богдана Футея, Уляну Дячук, скарбника. Зокрема склав по дяку фундації Родини Чопівських, яка покрила кошти виставки і Славкові Навицькому, який уложив саму виставку. При кінці, д-р Солтис прочитав зворушливий лист від президента Реґена. Під час перекуски, гості і представники преси мали нагоду приглянутися пи санню писанок, що його виконала Софійка Зєлик з Нью Йорку. Кожному преставникові американської преси вручено проф есійно виготовлені пресові інформації. Писанки на виставці були випозичені з Менор Джуньйор Коледж в Дженкинтовн Па. і з Українського Музею в Нью-Йорку. Катерина Рудицька THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON March 11, 1988 I am pleased and proud to send warmest greetings to everyone gathered with Ukrainian Americans in our Nation’s Capital to open an exhibit of Ukrainian Easter eggs — pysanky — as you observe the Millennium of Christianity in Kievan Rus’. Symbolizing rebirth and spiritual renewal, the pysanka, one of Ukraine’s cultural treasures, holds particular significance this year as Ukrainians everywhere mark a thousand years of Chris tian faith and tradition. The indestructibility of the Christian faith for these many centuries offers true witness to the obedience of count less believers to the Lord Jesus Christ’s divine commis sion to teach and baptize all nations. It confirms as well Christ’s promise of lasting faithfulness in the Gospel of Matthew — “ lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” The faith you cherish has withstood and outlived all the many persecutions and wars of the past. Today, the faithful living under Soviet domination display the per severance of their ancestors in the face of totalitarian ism. The United States continues to support the strug gle of Ukrainian Orthodox, Catholic, Baptist, Pentecostal, and other believers to openly worship and to practice their faith without constant fear of persecution. This Millennium of faith promises great hope for the future of humanity and for the triumph of the spirit over materialism and tyranny. I join you in recalling these words of the Master recorded by the apostle John, “ In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” You have my very best wishes now and for the years to come.
