4. Continue to provide aid to the needy in Europe and Brazil. 5. Publicize the federally-sponsored program of “Talk ing books” for the blind throughout all Ukrainian com munities and support the private initiative of Ukrainian "Talking books” which does not have full Federal sup port. 6. Search out and visit Ukrainians in hospitals and nurs ing homes. 7. Continue to hold inter-regional conferences on wel fare themes. During the panel, Natalia Danylenko added the following: 1. The help of the clergy should be sought in a coopera tive effort to aid those who suffer persecution in Ukraine. 2. the time given to volunteer work should be recorded to document involvement in community affairs. This might be helpful in Pulbic relations. SCHOLARSHIP CHAIR 1. Continue the scholarship program of the UNWLA. 2. Provide information about Ukrainian studies in the United States, in Canada and in Europe. Recommendations; A former scholarship recipient, upon completion of his or her studies and successful acquisition of a job, should sponsor a high school student for the same duration of time he or she was receiving scholarship aid; he or she should donate some of his/her time to work in a Ukrainian school or institution in the country where he or she lives. The Scholarship Chair should be helped in this project by the graduates as well as by the individuals who recommended them. PUBLIC RELATIONS CHAIR 1. Within the framework of the electoral process, indi vidual Branches should help members of the Ukrainian community to register to vote. Branches should also encourage people who have registered, to vote on elec tion day. 2. Branches should encourage their members to take an active part in the political life of their community. Branches should take the initiative and leadership role in at least one project which has a socio-political direc tion. 3. Branches should devote at least two meetings during the year to socio-political matters. 4. The UNWLA will take an active part in commemorat ing the 100th anniversary of the international women’ movement. 5. The UNWLA will continue to be active in the National Council of women of the U.S. ARTS AND MUSEUM CHAIR. The Ukrainian Museum in New York, founded by the UNWLA, has successfully begun its second decade of work devoted to the preservation of the Ukrainian cultu ral heritage. To enable it to continue in its development and fulfill its potential, the XXL Convention recommends: 1. to support the Trustees of the Ukrainian Museum in their guest to raise funds to build a representa tive museum facility. 2. to support a membership drive for the Museum. 3. to identify objects of cultural value, to register them and help the Museum to obtain them. 4. to continue to collect published material and photographs for the Musuem’s archival collection. 5. to encourage Branches and Regions to organize “ Ukrainian Museum Weeks” featuring appropriate programs. 6. to provide applied objects for the Museum gift shop. 7. to continually provide informtion about the Ukrainian Museum, its function, its recourses and cultural programs. PRESS CHAIR 1. To be of interest to all readers, it is necessary to pub lish material on a variety of themes in our magazine, and to speak out on subjects of interest to the general community. 2. Articles should be published which would appeal to the younger generation of women. 3. the achievements of the UNWLA should be afforded more coverage in the Ukrainian general press the com munity informed about the multi-level scope of work of the organization. 4. The National Board is responsible for the format of the Regional Chronicles. 5. Further objectives: Encourge subscribers. Collect funds for the Press and Reserve Funds. Hold events for the benefit of OUR LIFE magazine. 6. The Convention supports the ruling that Branches are responsible for 100% membership subscription. 7. Renew the publication of the page “ For Our Young est” in OUR LIFE should be reinstated. Recommendations: In order to ensure the continuation of OUR LIFE it is necessary to provide for the professional train ing of its staff. A scholarship for the study of the Ukrainian langague and communication subject should be made available and announced in the press. RESOLUTIONS OF THE FINANCE COMMITTEE 1. Declare 1988 as the year of OUR LIFE magazine. 2. Launch a major fund raising campaign to boost the Our Life Reserve Fund to $10,000. 3. Raise the Branch annual membership dues by 10% and individual membership to $6.00. 4. Make Branches responsible for the collection of Our Life subscriptions along with the annual dues. 5. Confirm the resolution of previous conventions, which states that Branches must fully pay their member’s sub scriptions to OUR LIFE by April of each year. 6.
