OUR LIFE M onthly, published by U krainian N ational W om en's League o f A m erica VOL. XLIV JULY-AUGUST 1987 Editor: Marta Baczynsky RESOLUTIONS OF THE XXI CONVENTION THE UKRAINIAN NATIONAL WOMEN’S LEAGUE OF AMERICA CLEVELAND, OHIO — MAY 23, 24, 25, 1987 The participants in the XXI Convention of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of Amer ica, will actively engage in the solemn celebrations commemorating the Millenium of Christian ity in Ukraine to commence next year. The Convention urges Branches and individual members of the organization to provide financial aid to Dr. Sophia Senyk towards the publication of her book “The History of the Ukrainian Church” in the English language. The Convention also encourages the support of the Ukrainian Museum as the institution prepares exhibits of ikons and modern Ukrainian religious art, as well as the publication of catalogues to accompany each exhibit. Deeply troubled and worried by the aftermath of the nuclear catastrophe at Chernobil, members of the UNWLA will make every attempt to lobby governments of the world to secure aid for the victims. In the name of truth, participants of the XXI Convention will fight the distortion of historical facts, planned to project a negative image of Ukrainians, particularly in their struggle for inde pendence and justice. Taking into account the power of women in organizational life and the influence they exert on the course of history, participants of the XXI Convention urge Ukrainian women to join the ranks of UNWLA and assist in its very important work. The Convention encourges Regional Councils to send delegates to the V Congress of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations, which will be held in Toronto, Canada in November 1987. Branches will support only projects which the UNWLA endorses as part of its program, con forming to the resolutions of the Convention and approved by the National Board. THE MEMBERSHIP CHAIR Adhering to the principle that the members of an organ ization are its foundation, it is necessary: 1. to continue the membership drive to bring more new members into Branches and to form new Branches. It should be announced that during each term of office, October will be designated as membership drive month. Regional Councils should be held accountable for newly formed Branches whose scope of activities should encompass only programs conforming to the resolu tions of the Convention and approved by the National Board. 2. to hold Membership Days within regions, which will advertise the UNWLA and allow non-members to become acquainted with the work of the organization. 3. to incorporate a membership drive for members-at- large into the membership drive project. Members-at- large are just as important to the organization as members of individual Branches. 4. to urge each Branch board to acquaint the member ship with the By-Laws of the organization and with par liamentary procedure (Robert’s Rules). ’’НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЛИПЕНЬ-СЕРПЕНЬ 1987 19
