NEWS FROM UNWLA HEADQUARTERS — Lidia Czernyk, Welfare Chairperson of the UNWLA, expressed gratitude to those individuals who donated to the newest project of the Welfare program — the Medical Aid Fund for Children and Young People. The funds, which were sent to needy children in Brazil and Poland have helped them resume normal, healthy lives. A list of donors to the Medical Aid Fund was pub lished in the Ukrainian section of Our Life magazine (January 1986). — UNWLA Scholarship Program Reserve Fund: es tablished in 1985 through the generous donations of an anonymous donor and the late Dr. Z. Nyzankiwsky will be used by the Scholarship Program for its special needs. — During the National Board meeting of the UNWLA (October, 1985) a motion was adopted to send copies of various materials to Ukrainian schools and orphanages in Brazil. At the beginning of December 1985 members of the Welfare Committee packed and sent out 37 packages of OUR LIFE and 52 packages of tape cassettes. These items are greatly appreciated by the children and their teachers, alike. A circular was sent to UNWLA Branches with a request to help cover the cost of postage. The following Branches responded with donations: 1, 4, 24, 33, 72, 79, 92, 104, 119. Once again, Mrs. L. Czernyk thanked all those who gave of their time and money and expressed her hope that others would join in this project. — W E L C O M E TO T H E N E W E S T U N W L A B R A N C H ! On December 8, 1985 the Executive Board approved a new UNWLA Branch. The number given the Branch, based in New York City — 113. Good luck to Luba Fir- chuk, president of Branch 113 and all the members. — A R E M IN D E R . The XXI UNWLA Convention takes place MAY 1987 in CLEVELAND, OHIO. The Conven tion Committee is being chaired by Nadia Deychakiwsky. — Dr. Martha Bohachevsky-Chomiak, UNWLA vice- president in the area of public relations, is a member of the committee which will be planning the commemora tion of the International Council of Women’s 100th An niversary. The celebrations are scheduled for the year 1988 in Washington, D.C. — U N W L A C irculars: • Press committee chairperson, Anna Maksymo- wych, reminds UNWLA Branches that according to our organizational By-laws all UNWLA Branches are obliged to subscribe to OUR LIFE. According to the resolutions of the XX Convention, subscription payments should be collected with membership dues. Each Branch is requested to plan at least one event whose profits will be earmarked for the Press Fund of OUR LIFE. Press committee-chairpersons of each region are reminded to complete their respective chronicles for 1985 and forward them to A. Maksymowych. A press and cultural committee conference is plan ned for April 1986. • Irina Kurowycky, member-at-large of the UNWLA Executive Committee, encourages members to recruit more women as Members-at-Large into the UNWLA. A sample invitation letter along with an explanation of the UNWLA were sent to Branch presidents. • Regional Council presidents received their report forms with instructions. The deadline for these reports is April 15, 1986. With Regional Council Meetings scheduled soon, presidents are asked to have a short report of this meeting prepared for publication in OUR LIFE. — The revised edition of the UNWLA By-laws is ready. Copies sent to the Regions should be distributed to local Branches. The cost per copy is $2.00. If any member is unable to pay, the By-laws should be given free of charge. Branches not within a Region will receive their copies directly. The award-winning film “PYSANKA” by Slawko Nowitsky will also be shown. This program is scheduled to run continuously during the three days. Time: 1-5 p.m. Fee: $2.50, museum members, seniors and students $2.00, children under 12 free. The fee for workshops and demonstrations also to the Ukrainian Museum.
