The Ukrainian Museum in New York has already acquired over 200 photographs for its immigration and history collection. Among them are a 1911 photo of the wedding of Mychajlo and Halyna Perih which took place at St. George’s Church in New York, a 1922 photo of Ukrainians marching down Fifth Avenue in New York to protest the annexation of Galicia by Poland, and a photo from 1890 depicting the first Ukrainian orchestra in U.S;, founded in Pennsylvania. Other photographs include Galicians who were murdered by Bolsheviks and their common grave, amatuer theatrical groups, sports and social events, choirs, women’s organizations, and others. The acquisition of these 300 photographs to date is only the first step in a major project of the Museum: to document the history of Ukrainian immigrants to America. What is required to make the project a success is continued efforts by the Museum, and most importantly, the cooperation of the entire Ukrainian community in U. S.
