Another entertainment feature was a medley of songs sung by a well loved lady with a lilting soprano voice who charmed everyone. She was our own Donia Stephania Demery (Branch 37) who has been serving the Ukrainian community with song since her teens for over 50 years. Her three musical selections were Shtoharenko’s “If only I had shoes"; Stepovey’s “Song of Hope”; and a delighful Lemko song by Hayvoronsky. This beautiful Ukrainian music was enthusiastically received. The brilliant accompaniment was played by Olga Solovey, widely known for her excellence. Katherine Krywucky (Branch 56) gave a dramatic recitation called “Mother” which the audience enjoyed very much. This is the album of the young, but widely known singer Kvitka Cisyk, whom you know through the extensive interview published in the Septem ber 1978 issue of "Our Life.” In her album, Kvitka Cisyk presents the Ukrainian public with a collection of traditional well-known Ukrainian songs. The rendition of these songs is of extremely high artistic quality. The musical arrangement and production of the album was done by Jack Cortner, Kvitka’s husband; the background band consists of twelve persons. The album is dedicated to the memory of Kvitka’s father, Volodymyr Cisyk, who — in Kvitka’s own words — ’’opened up the world of music" to her. Translated & condensed by M. INCREASE OF SUBSCRIPTION OF “OUR LIFE” MAGAZINE. As of January 1, 1981 the subscription of “Our Life” magazine has been increased to $13.00. Due to the high cost of printing and mailing, the Executive Committee of UNWLA was forced to increase the subscription of “Our Life” in order to insure its continued existance. COUNTRIES OTHER THAN U. S. (with the exception of South America) may send the subscription in their currency, which will equal the amount of 13.00 American dollars. We would greatly appreciate receiving additional $2.00 from those subscribers who already paid $11.00 for the 1981 subscription.
