ACTIVITIES OF BRANCH #72 for уваг 19B0 January 16 — At our regular meeting Mrs. Ivanna Petrowska donated a beautiful embroidered pillow case that she embroi dered herself for our dinner — dance to be held at Soyuzivka October 4th and 5th of this year. Over the years Mrs. Ivanna Petrowska has been very generous to our Branch. January 19 — A few of our members attended the Observance of Ukraine's 62nd Independence Anniversary and act of Union at the Roosevelt Hotel. January 21 — At City Hall in the blue room there was a reading of the Proclamation of Ukrainian Independence Day. February 3 — A program was held at the Estonian House in New York at 4:30 P. M. On the program was young pianist Andrij Bohachevsky. Branch 72 had sponsored young Andrij Bohachevsky at one of our annual musicales held December 5, 1976 at the Ukrainian Institute of America, Inc. Present of our members were Rosalie Polche Musicale Chairman at that, time, Mary Bodnar, Dorothy Chupa, Mildred Luciw, Helen Prociuk, Ann Wasylkow and President Oksana Szczur of New York Regional Council, N. Y. February 24 — Attended Reginal Council meeting. Many of our members were also present. March 16 — Some members attended the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Priesthood of the Very Rev. Volodymyr Gavlich at St. George Church, which followed with a Testimonial Dinner at 5:30 P. M. in the auditorium of St. George School. March 22 — Rosalie Polche represented our branch at the 80th Anniversary of Prof. Volodymyr Kubijovych. The banquet was held at the Ukrainian National Home in New York City. March 29 — Member Tekla Husiak volunteered her time unselfishly to the Ukrainian Museum and volunteered a number of other times. April 23 — I attended the National Council of Women Dinner at the United Nations building. A few women from Regional Council were also present. April 29 — I attended organizational membership meeting with membership chairperson Anne Bezkorowajny. May 17 — I attended dinner reception of all Branch Presidents. Hospitality Chairperson Mary Bodnar also attended and was a tremendous help. Helen Prociuk gave an interesting talk on Copenhagen. May 31 — I attended the Ukrainian Festival at the Garden State Arts Center at Holmdel, New Jersey, many of our members attended. The program was most enjoyable. June 27 — End of Season party was held at Travers Island Athletic Club; fourteen members and three husbands attended. Because of Mr. Joseph Lesawyer’s membership we were able to hold our End of Season dinner party. It was a first visit for most of us and a good time was had by all. I’d like to add that a member sold raffle books for raffling off the consolation prizes. July 19 — I attended the Fifth Verkhovyna Ukrainian Youth Festival at the Ukrainian Fraternal Association Resort Center at Glen Spey, N. Y. It was a three day festival held July 18,19, and 20th. Many of our members were there. August 17 — Soyuzanka Day. Many of our members attended. September 28 — Many members besides myself attended a special Mass at St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church for Steve Jarema who was knighted St. Gregory the Great. A testimonial dinner followed immediately. Bishop Losten, Monsignor Peter Fedorchuck and Monsignor Emil Manastersky and other priests were present. October 4 & 5 — We held our Eighteenth Annual Charity Dinner — Dance which was held at Soyuzivka and chaired by Sophia Kotyk, co-chaired by Anne Bezkorowajny and Anne Wasylkow. It was a success. On Sunday October 19 we attended 11:00 A. M. mass at the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in Brooklyn to help Branch 21 celebrate their Golden Jubilee. The members who attended and their husbands were Dorothy Chupa, Anne Bezkorowajny, Lilly Bochonko, Bill Chupa, Ben Bezkorowajny, And Harold Bochonko.The banquet followed at 2:30 P. M. Awards were given out to different officers. November 2 — We held our Eighteenth Musicale Program of three young artists: Askold Shegedyn who played the piano, Lidia T. Hawryluk, a soprano, Marta Zielyk, an actress who recited in English and Ukrainian. It was successfully chaired by Mary Lesawyer and her co-chairman Anne Bezkorowajny. Reception Committee, Katherine Kozulak and Nancy Marko, did a fine job with the help of the membership. At the door was Irene Czarnecky and Sophia Kotyk. November 9 — Four Region organizational meeting held in Philadelphia which included New Jersey, Connecticut, and New York. Our past president, Olga Liteplo, represented our Branch. November 12 — Olga Liteplo attended organizational meeting. December 7 — ’’Vechir” at 4:00 P. M. at 108 Second Avenue. I read Taras Shevchenko’s poetry. Mary Bodnar, Mildred Luciw, Tessie Husiak, Olga Liteplo, and Rosalie Polche sang a few songs together. December 10 — This year we had our Christmas Party catered at the Ukrainian Institute. Mary Bodnar was the Chairperson. Andy Malan took some pictures of the eighteen members and husbands who joined our festivities. We ended our Christmas Party singing Ukrainian Carols. December 19 — Yalinka (tree lighting) at 6:00 P. M. Some members attended. Afterwards Christmas Carols were sung at the Domivka at 108 Second Avenue, coffee and cake was served. December 20 — I attended the Diamond Jubilee banquet at St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Academy at 4:00 P. M. Rosalie Polche, Stacey Brodin and president Oksana Szczur of Regional Council N.
