Only 150 prints have been made and numbered accordingly. Each has been personally signed by the artist.They measure 13"x13" and are ready for mat ting or framing. ABOUT THE ARTIST Jacques Hnizdovsky, painter and woodcutter is con sidered one of the foremost woodcut artists in the world. He was born in Ukraine in 1915, studied in Europe, and came to the United States in 1949. Shortly after coming to the States, he was awarded a Purchase Award for a woodcut at the 1950 Minneopolis Institute of Art print exhibit and the First Prize at the Boston Printmakers Annual Exhibit in 1962. His prints were shown in major national and international graphic exhibits and are included in the permanent collections of many museums. A catalogue raisonne of his woodcuts with over two hundred reproductions was published in 1975. In the introduction, Peter Wick writes ’’The woodcuts of Jacques Hnizdovsky represent some of the freshest and most original printmaking in American graphic arts of the past thirty years”. ABOUT THE ARTIST Bohdan Borzemsky, born in Kolomya, Ukraine, has been recognized for his activities in the realm of con temporary art for over three decades. He studied in the art schools of Eastern Europe during the war years, and later under Edwin Dickinson and Robert Quathmey, at the Cooper Union Art School in New York, where he graduated with honors in 1951. Twice he was the recipient of the Cooper Union Award for Highest Achievement in Graphic Art. Thereafter he began successfully experimenting with a variety of media, including woodcuts, often basing his themes upon the folklore and life-style of the Hutsuls, who live in the Carpathian Mountains in Western Ukraine. Mr. Borzemsky exhibited widely in this country and abroad. His works are included in numerous private collections in the States, Canada, Europe and Africa. Ranked among the top Ukrainian artists, Mr. Brozemsky has the esteem and recognition of his colleagues. “B. Borzemsky’s works are innovative and possess exquisite taste. He has become one of our most productive (Ukrainian) artists, working simulta neously in painting and the graphic arts. His graphics are unique due to his utilization of painting tech niques, and within the highly developed field of contemporary graphic illustration in Ukraine, there are few to equal him. (Borzemsky), whose works are among the best produced, has established his own place in the field of contemporary Ukrainian graphics”. Sviatoslav Hordynsky ”B.
