CHRYSTOS VOSKRES! VOISTYNU VOSKRES! Executive Board of UNWLA EDITORIAL THRIFT IN ANGER, GENEROSITY IN On occasion, a small group of people is isolated from the outside world. In such a case, the individuals begin irritating one another; the most inconsequential habit, and eventually, the very presence of an individual, will elicit great antipathy and even hatred toward that individual. People stranded on a ship will act this way; but what of the people locked up in Soviet prisons? These people, however, are intelligent and idealistic individuals. They have somehow managed to overcome petty differences and come out ahead, physical wrecks, but spiritual giants. We must remember Mychajlo Sokora, Boris Antonenko Davydovych, Mykola Rudenko... Such cases of anger often appear in our communi ties overseas. Often, inconsequential matters stir up violent emotions, and cause conflicts between people. There arise barriers of barbed wire made of anger. A small spark of anger, if not overcome immediately with forbearance, may eventually grow into a rock of anger and hatred. Often the matter argued over is forgotten; but the anger lives on. Sometimes a kind and gentle individual may say something harsh, and we no longer even speak to them. Sadly enough, we do not realize that the harsh words FORBEARANCE AND LOVE may have come from a person hurt by something, and may not have been directed at us after all. This problem goes still deeper, not ending in personal matters. Sometimes the views of a political party, a specific organization, will elicit rivalry and even hatred between groups of people. Often, we are more likely to associate with “enemies of the nation” than with some of our own people, simply due to their different beliefs. Different views and opinions will always exist in society. Discussing matters and different views may only bring about good, by letting us experience varying points of view. People growing up in a different society are bound to have slightly different views on matters. Must this stand in the way of us walking together, toward a common goal? Inconsequential matters may destroy a great strength, may blind us from reaching our true goal. Easter, the Ressurection of Christ, is preceeded by Lent. During Lent, we should examine ourselves and our actions very carefully. Thrift in anger, as well as genero sity in love and forbearance, will bring us an additional measure of enjoyment of the holiday of the triumph of good over evil.
